Mom Advised to Abort Her Babies 6 Times, Welcomes Healthy One-In-A-Million Identical Twins

A community rejected two parents' unborn twins, with professionals pushing for abortion right up until birth. However, the mom dug her heels in the ground, ready for the fight of her life.

Thirty-nine-year-old Rachel and her husband, 32-year-old Cody Prescott from Oregon, United States, were elated parents-to-be. The duo couldn't wait on their beautiful twins to make their way into this world.

But, their excitement was thwarted as doctors and their loved ones reacted with sympathy upon learning that the unborn babies would be born with Down Syndrome -- a phenomenon that occurs in only one in a million identical twins.

STRANGE PRIORITIES

Beyond Down Syndrome, medical professionals found that the duo had severe heart issues that could lead to their death following birth, and they may have to face surgery.

Almost pushing the concerning heart problems aside, Rachel recollected her first prenatal appointment focused on the chromosome disorder. Six doctors went through the scans to confirm or deny the diagnosis, with the mom saying:

"Information on navigating their cardiac situation was dwarfed by the push for genetic testing and possible means of abortion."

The parents were baffled that the medical professionals, rather than the heart issues, were more focused on the children possibly having Down Syndrome -- a discovery they made in 2018.

UNSOLICITED SYMPATHY

It wasn't just those in the medical field who were solely concerned about the twins having the condition, but those within the parents' circles as well.

This overall assumption was that Rachel and Cody were experiencing grief, with many individuals sending their condolences. But this couldn't be further from the truth.

A GORGEOUS FAMILY

In 2019, the couple welcomed two healthy babies, Annette and Charlotte, who love playing with their dog and brothers.

Their mother and father are asking other parents of children with their condition to accept and love them exactly as they are.

AND SO THE LOVE CONTINUES

Other parents are also challenging the stigma against having children with Down Syndrome, such as mother Savannah Combs.

Twenty-three-year-old Combs embodied the Prescotts' spirit -- unreservedly giving birth and loving both their children who have the condition, unconditionally.

Combs also gave birth to her one in a million Down Syndrome twins, Mckenli and Kennadi Ackermanon, on May 12, 2021. They were born two months early and stayed at the hospital for six weeks.

Justin Ackerman, the twins' father, was slightly emotional regarding the diagnosis, but the mom was simply glad they were alive and well. Overall, like Rachel and Cody, they have a joyous family life -- with the twins flourishing.

MORE STIGMA ARISES

However, no matter how many individuals fight against this ignorance, people and surprisingly, an endless number of doctors do not take heed. They treat parents of kids with Down Syndrome with unwarranted pity.

In 2018, Nicola and Todd Bailey from the United Kingdom also had twins, Harper and Quinn. However, because they were fraternal, only Harper was born with the condition.

Nicola claimed that the doctor expressed his sympathies when he found out about this. These parents are also on a mission to demystify Down Syndrome, noticing stares while in public.

As these mothers and fathers continue to struggle against misconceptions, we should all look to ourselves and ask, what are our opinions on this condition? How informed are we? And how can we educate ourselves?
