A 54-year-old mother turned to the internet for help to bring back the broken pieces of her family together after her surprise inheritance announcement bombed the serenity in her family.

The Redditor credited her eldest daughter as the pivotal reason for her heartbreak and sought advice on Reddit's "Relationship Advice" sub. She explained why the daughter, whom she always favored above her three kids, was hell-bent on cutting her off from her life after she declared the contents of her will.

The Original Poster (OP)'s eldest daughter became a single mother at 16. For this reason, OP always prioritized her and recalled spending more on her than her other children. From providing child support and rent-free accommodation to getting her kids expensive gadgets, OP did her best to help her daughter without expecting to be repaid.

Meanwhile, OP wanted to decide the fate of her legacy so that all her children got what they truly deserved. She said she was just 54 and healthy but still wanted to sort her will early so that her children don't have a significant fallout after her passing.

OP decided to slice her wealth and assets among her four kids and arranged a virtual meeting. She assured them she would amend the will depending on unforeseen and future situations. She then disclosed the will as the children eagerly listened, not to mention they were all excited at this point.

The mom first proclaimed that 12% of her wealth would be set aside for various charities. Her two sons, aged 26 and 23, would get 22% and 26% percent of the remaining money, respectively. As for her youngest daughter, OP said she would get 22%.

She explained that her third son would be inheriting more since he never planned to have kids. She also clarified that since she'd spent over a million on her eldest daughter and her kids in the past decade, she would be getting the least share among the four. While the three children thought it was fair enough, the eldest was furious with her mom's decision.

OP knew her eldest daughter was displeased after she immediately hung up. Her daughter then requested a word with her in private. She told OP that her three siblings wouldn't need as much as they inherited, considering their stable jobs and salaries, which contrasts her current situation and joblessness after she got fired from her waitress position.

Although OP explained that she would still spend money on her daughter and three children, the younger woman was vexed. She lashed out at OP and immediately hung up on her. Since the incident, the daughter turned down all of OP's efforts to reconcile, and the rift in their relationship was aggravated to a point where she decided to cut ties with her mom.

Heartbroken and let down by her child, the mother thought the internet would help her resolve her plight. But a few users expressed their unsatisfactory opinions and questioned OP on the issue.

One Reddit user thought something was still missing in OP's clarification, stating, "Really? You spent a million dollars on her? How? Rent and iPads? Right...Your numbers make no sense at all," and added: "And your estate planning is extraordinarily simplistic for someone who has $50 million...And in this case, even this supposed irresponsible daughter would know better than to risk being completely cut out."

"Surely you can afford better than free advice from internet strangers," asserted another commenter. Meanwhile, some people asked the mother why she hurried to disclose her will to her children.

"I hope this is something that time will heal. As for why I told them, I wanted them to all know to prevent arguments that will push them apart," OP proclaimed, saying she didn't want to alarm them with their shares later.

The mother continued to add that her eldest daughter expressed that she felt less compared to her siblings because she did not have a high-paying job, and got good grades, while the rest of her siblings went to college and built better lives for themselves. But the OP emphasized that she did not treat her daughter any differently.
