Ukrainian Woman, 23, Gives Birth in Metro Station Used as Shelter While Missiles Flew Outside
Recently, a young mom welcomed her child in a metro station used as a bomb shelter in war-torn Ukraine. The baby joined several other children born during this chaos.
Amid the heartbreaking scenes from Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, where the war with Russia is at its peak, several mothers have welcomed their children regardless of the chaos around them.
One of the stories of babies born amid the war involves a 23-year-old who welcomed her daughter Mia on Friday, February 25. The infant was born before 8:30 p.m., with terrifying gunshots and war screams outside the walls sheltering her mother.

Former deputy head of Ukraine, Hanna Hopko, shared a touching image on Twitter of a young woman holding a newborn girl. Hopko tweeted that the child was born to the woman seen in the picture and had arrived in war-torn Kyiv. She wrote:
“Mia was born in shelter this night in stressful environment- bombing of Kyiv. Her mom is happy after this challenging birth giving.”
Several people can be seen leaning against a wall in the backdrop of the picture, holding covers, seeking to get warm from the cold of the night. Mia was born in a metro station used as a bomb shelter.
Police officer Mykola Shlapak reportedly assisted the new mom in birthing her daughter. The 23-year-old got help when her scream was heard by others seeking refuge from the onslaught in the city.
The new mom and infant were later taken by an ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they received proper medical attention and are said to be doing well.
Since the attacks began almost a week ago, Ukrainian hospitals have been kept busy, catering to the needs of the ailing and the injured as the country is immersed in a heated war with neighboring Russia.
Mia's birth has been hailed as one of the "miracles from Kyiv." Several social media commentators remarked that the baby's birth signified a moment of joy in a time submerged in deep sorrow.
The cute photo of the mother and child holding hands has gained thousands of comments and likes. One touched woman who had read the story on Twitter remarked that Mia was a beacon of hope and light for her country.
BABIES OF WAR
Mia's incredible birth sparked a wave of reactions across the world. However, she is not the only toddler born amid this crisis. Viktor Liashko, Ukraine's Minister of Health, took to social media to say that several babies had been born since the war began.
A woman also welcomed a baby girl in another underground maternity unit in Kyiv. The baby's father shared a picture of the toddler on Facebook, which received a massive outpouring of love from social media users.
Almost 100,000 Ukrainians have fled to Poland and Hungary in search of safety since Vladimir Putin led Russia to launch an attack on the country last Thursday. The war has left behind several casualties and countless displaced families.
There are concerns in Europe that the Russia-Ukraine war could spill into a much bigger scenario. Also, different world leaders and celebrities have called for resolution talks between both parties.
