As new court details emerged, the scene outside the home became only part of a far more unsettling story.

A quiet Virginia neighborhood was suddenly filled with deputies, flashing lights, and the sight of a door being forced open. What cameras captured next revealed the deeply personal crisis unfolding inside the home of a prominent NFL star.

Eric Bieniemy's wife, Mia Bieniemy, was seriously injured after being shot inside the couple's Ashburn townhouse, according to authorities. The couple's 27-year-old son, Elijah Bieniemy, was later arrested and held without bond.

The surveillance images from the scene offer a startling glimpse of the response. However, the details investigators reportedly uncovered inside the home make the footage even more disturbing.

According to NBC Washington's July 27, 2026, report, deputies moved in on the Ashburn residence after Mia had allegedly been shot by her son.

Video provided to the outlet by neighbors captured law enforcement officers surrounding the townhouse. A person recording the scene could be heard reacting as deputies prepared to enter. "Oh, [expletive]! They're breaking down the door," the person recording exclaimed.

The door was then smashed open as deputies began what the report described as a rescue operation. Moments later, officers were seen carrying a woman away from the home.

Another man was subsequently taken from the area in handcuffs. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office identified Elijah as the suspect and alleged that he had shot and seriously wounded his mother. He now faces several felony counts, including malicious wounding.

For residents, the accusation appeared almost impossible to reconcile with the person they thought they knew. "The son is always very quiet. Doesn't cause any disturbance. This is very shocking for everybody," one neighbor said.

A reporter later explained that other residents were also "scratching their heads." They reportedly described Elijah as someone who kept to himself and had never displayed an obvious sign of trouble.

Still, as the correspondent carefully noted, outsiders rarely know everything taking place behind another family's doors.

Court Records Reveal the Extent of Mia's Injuries

A criminal complaint obtained through a court-record search reportedly states that Elijah used a .22-caliber firearm and shot Mia twice. One bullet struck her left forearm, while another entered her shoulder and traveled across her chest.

Mia required surgery for her injuries. Authorities reportedly stated that part of a bullet remained inside her body after the shooting. She was still recovering in the hospital at the time of the latest update. The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed that Eric is focused on his family as his wife receives medical care and his son remains in custody.

No alleged motive had been revealed. Additionally, the NBC Washington reporter said the complaint did not indicate what may have happened immediately before the shooting, and the Bieniemy family had also not released a public statement at the time of the report.

Andy Reid Shares an Emotional Message

Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid, who has known the Bieniemy family for years, said Mia was in stable condition. He also offered an emotional description of the woman he has come to know personally.

"She's a saint, you know, we all know that, the people that know her," Andy said. "One of God's good blessings [...] really special person."

He acknowledged the difficult circumstances facing the family and added, "Things happen, and you just gotta work through it."

What Happens Next in the Case?

Elijah reportedly has a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 31 in Loudoun County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Although he is 27, the court's name does not necessarily indicate that he is being treated as a juvenile. As NBC Washington explained, alleged crimes involving relatives commonly begin in juvenile and domestic relations court because it also handles certain family-related cases.

The matter could later be moved to circuit court. That would depend on what happens during the preliminary proceedings.

Eric Previously Spoke Proudly of Elijah

Long before the devastating allegations, Eric publicly described his youngest son with unmistakable pride. In a 2011 profile about the coach's life and return to Colorado, Elijah was identified as Eric and Mia's 13-year-old son. At the time, he was becoming involved in youth sports.

Eric said he enjoyed attending Elijah's Pop Warner activities as a father and supporter. However, he had declined invitations to coach his son's team. "The thing about it is I'm just a dad," he explained. "I'm there to support my son as he supports me on game day."

The same profile described Eric's pride in his eldest son, Eric III, who has cerebral palsy. "He's the rock of the family," the coach said. "He runs the house."

Eric urged others not to feel sorry for his eldest child, explaining that the family happily lived according to Eric III's schedule. At the time of that interview, Eric also spoke proudly about his marriage and his two sons.

Those warm comments now stand in painful contrast to the allegations surrounding the family's Ashburn home.

The Coach Has Also Reflected on His Own Mistakes

The 2011 profile also addressed Eric's earlier legal troubles, including minor incidents during his playing years and a DUI after he returned to Colorado as an assistant coach in 2001.

On the matter, Eric said, "When you fall down, you either got to get up and correct it or you are going to repeat the mistake. That's the beauty of life, having an opportunity to amend your mistakes."

A Celebrated NFL Career Interrupted by a Family Emergency

Eric was preparing to begin his 11th season with Kansas City and his sixth as the team's offensive coordinator this year (2026), according to his official Chiefs coaching biography.

He previously served as Kansas City's offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022 and helped the team win two Super Bowls. His résumé also includes the Washington Commanders, UCLA, the Chicago Bears, and a nine-year career as an NFL player.

Yet football understandably moved into the background after the violent incident at his family's Virginia residence.

The Chiefs said Eric's attention remains on his loved ones as Mia recovers. For now, the family faces a painful wait for medical progress, further court proceedings, and answers about what allegedly led to the gunfire.

The neighborhood footage does not explain how the crisis began. It captures only the frantic aftermath: the forced entry, the rescue, and an arrest that left an entire community stunned.
