David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, have managed to be one of Hollywood's celebrity couples that have managed to make their marriage last long. However, the pair have had their fair share of ups and downs in their relationship.

In between everything, the couple has managed to raise four children, daughter Harper and sons Romeo, Brooklyn, and Cruz. They've also navigated successful careers and have worked together to tackle any challenges that might come their way.

One of the things they've had to face was the ongoing rumors and gossip about their relationship. There have been allegations of cheating and David and Victoria's marriage ending in divorce in the past.

Despite it all, the pair have clung to each other and honored their marriage. In the following piece, we look at some details about the Beckhams' love story, the challenges they've faced, and parenting.

THE COUPLE'S MEETING PROVES THEY WERE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER

David became attracted to his future wife the minute he saw her in her girl band, the Spice Girls' video for "Say You'll Be There." Pointing to Victoria, the English soccer player told Gary Neville, his Manchester United teammate:

“Oh I like that one in the little black catsuit.”

Ironically, Victoria seemed to have an interest in him too. During an Old Trafford charity soccer match, the singer attended with fellow bandmate now known as Mel C, and asked to be introduced to David, then an up-and-coming sports star, writing later for British Vogue:

“Love at first sight does exist. It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge... While the other football players stand at the bar drinking, you will see David standing aside with his family."

In the letter, written for her teenage self, Victoria also noted how she was the famous one at the time, and the athlete hadn't even gotten into the first team. However, she thought he had a cute smile.

She was also close to her family and thought David felt similar to her. During that 1997 meeting in the players' lounge, the soccer player asked for Victoria's number, which she wrote on a London-to-Manchester plane ticket.

The singer announced that she and David were engaged at a press conference the following year. She explained how his proposal had been lovely but that she hadn't expected it, noting how it was a "surprise."

On July 4, 1999, Victoria and David got married on the outskirts of Dublin at Luttrellstown Castle. Their marriage happened four months after they welcomed their first son and child, Brooklyn.

The newlyweds sat on thrones at the after-party and later changed into matching purple outfits. Mel B, who was one of the guests at the wedding, recalled that "perfect" day, stating:

“I remember looking at them and thinking these two would be unbreakable. It wasn’t just that they were besotted with each other, it was the fact they could make each other laugh.”

HOW THE COUPLE SURVIVED INFIDELITY AND DIVORCE RUMORS

In 2002, David and his wife welcomed their second child, Romeo. Two years later, Rebecca Loos, David's former assistant, alleged an affair between her and her former boss, with her brother, John Charles, stating to Daily Mail in 2004:

"She has confirmed to me she had an affair with David.”

David denied the claims, and he and Victoria, who was allegedly devastated, soldiered on in their marriage. However, he did address the allegations in a statement, saying:

"During the past few months, I have [been] reading ludicrous stories about my private life... I am very happily married, have a wonderful wife, and two very special kids. [Nothing can] change these facts."

A few years later, in April 2008, Victoria opened up to Vogue about how she and her husband dealt with the allegations. She shared how deeply she felt for David, saying:

“You know, I love and trust my husband 100%. It’s my job to protect the family. We have a very nice, positive energy around us as a family and if it’s not positive and nice, I don’t want to know about it.”

In 2005, the couple's third son, Cruz, and Victoria delved into the fashion industry by starting a denim range designed for Rock & Republic the same year her son was born. Two years later, the family moved from England to America.

The move seemed to bring the couple closer, with Victoria noting how she and her husband were "soulmates." In July 2011, the Beckham family was completed when their only daughter, Harper, was born.

After David's five-year LA Galaxy contract ended, he moved to the French team Paris Saint–Germain before retiring from professional soccer later that year. In 2013, the couple returned to London, and Victoria focused on her fashion career.

Her husband made money through endorsement deals and established an MLS team in Miami. David and Victoria made sure they focused on being good parents despite having busy careers.

However, rumors about them having trouble in paradise still followed. In 2018, allegations went around stating the couple was close to announcing their divorce, but the Beckhams denied the rumors, and Victoria's representative said:

“There is no impending statement, there is no divorce. What nonsense. Fake news fueled by social media. Embarrassing for the sloppy outlets who have chosen to write such rubbish.”

Victoria admitted that the rumors could "get quite frustrating," but she let her public relations team handle them and didn't get involved. In January 2017, David had this to say about his family and the rumors:

“We’re a strong family unit [with] strong parents [and] brought up with the right values. You make mistakes, and we all know marriage is difficult at times. It’s about working through it."

In September 2018, Victoria confessed to British Vogue, "People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years." She explained further, "We both realize that we are stronger together than we are as individuals."

Despite everything, the couple still had a vow renewal ceremony that proved their dedication to each other. Victoria and David went big for the initial marriage, but it was attended by six people this time around.

Sally Baker, therapist and relationship expert, noted how David and Victoria had put in the work to avoid the marriage sinking. Baker felt the couple were consistently putting in the effort to make their family life their main priority, with a friend noting:

“They’re in a really great place. They’ve relaxed into their marriage and learned not to sweat the small stuff. They keep saying that they can’t wait to be grandparents.”

The duo often have family dinners even though they enjoy different dishes. The former soccer player explained how he enjoyed his meals and what obstacles he came across, saying:

“When eating something great I want everyone to try it. I’m married to someone that's eaten the same thing for 25 years... she’s shared something that’s on my plate when pregnant with Harper.”

Victoria and David also enjoy watching television shows in bed, and one of their favorites is "Fleabag." The couple has shown how bonded they are by teasing each other on social media.

The former athlete also gave his wife 14 other rings, in addition to her wedding band, since they got married 22 years ago. The jewelry was his way of showing his wife love, and he once showed how dazzling he was with his words, stating:

“My wife picked me out of a soccer sticker book. And I chose her off the telly… It felt straight away like we’d always been meant to be together.”

In March 2017, Victoria appeared on the "Today" show, where she praised David. She confessed: "I'm very lucky that David is the most fantastic father and husband, and he's great, and we're very equal at home, and we're a very, very good team."

The fashion designer continued, "We complement each other... He inspires me every day; just seeing him with the children and how he treats me; it just works. We are lucky to have each other."

DAVID'S PARENTING AND SON'S WEDDING

At the beginning of 2022, David sparked some criticism from his fans for how he treated his four children. He shared an Instagram photo where he was seen kissing his then-10-year-old daughter on the lips.

Some critics felt it was wrong for David to kiss Harper on the lips and urged him not to. It wasn't the first time he faced the criticism as the same thing happened in 2017, forcing him to address the matter via Facebook Live, stating:

“I kiss all my kids on the lips. I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I [and Victoria were] brought up... We show our kids love, [protection], support, and [affection].”

In April 2022, David and Victoria's eldest child, Brooklyn, married at age 23 to actress Nicola Peltz, then-27. The former soccer player "shed a tear" while giving an emotional five-minute speech at the event.

The Jewish ceremony was held at Peltz's family's seafront estate in Palm Beach, Florida. The early evening wedding day allegedly cost $3.5 million and boasted a jazz quartet and a 12-piece live band for entertainment.
