A 19-year-old girl lived with her mother, brother, and sister-in-law when she decided to evict them by selling the house. She had inherited the house from her father and was tired of living with them.

The girl's mother had married twice, so she and her brother had different fathers. When her father died, he left her a $2.5M house and only gave $10,000 to her mother.

The girl opened up on Reddit and explained why she sold the house and made her family homeless. At the end of her post, she asked other users if she was at fault.

Redditor Routine_Junket1040 narrated her story in the "AITA" forum on Reddit, asking other users if she was at fault for kicking her mother, brother, and pregnant sister-in-law out of the house.

Last year, the girl's father died after losing his battle with cancer. Since she was his only child, he gave her most of his assets, including his house.

Despite not having any relationship with her brother, the late man left $10,000 for him. He also left the same amount for the girl's mother.

After reading the will, her mother was unhappy because she didn't expect her husband to leave everything to their daughter. She always thought the house belonged to her, but now it was her daughter's possession.

The girl's eyes widened when she heard her sister-in-law say that they won't be moving out.

The girl and her mother lived alone in the house while her elder brother lived elsewhere. But a year after the man's death, the girl's brother and his girlfriend moved in with them.

She was appalled at their behavior because they never asked for permission before moving into her house. She felt disrespected and thought they should have talked to her about it.

Moreover, they didn't even pay rent or help with the house chores. The girl described them as "entitled" because they lived in her house as if they owned it. She asked them to find another place within two months since they were not contributing to the household.

A month later, they announced their pregnancy and assumed that they didn't need to move out anymore. The girl's eyes widened when she heard her sister-in-law say that they'd be staying.

She immediately told her brother that she wanted them to leave, but he laughed at her and refused to leave. Meanwhile, her mother also supported the couple's decision.

Feeling helpless, Original Poster (OP) decided to stay quiet until things got out of control. She shared that her sister-in-law had started eating more because of her pregnancy which annoyed her.

On top of it, the girl's mother sided with her sister-in-law and treated her like a princess. She often asked OP to step outside and buy her the food she craved.

On OP's birthday, her sister-in-law ate all the cupcakes her friend had made for her. She was fuming with anger because she didn't get to taste any of them, but she remained silent.

"I can't even make my lunch the night before because it will be gone when I get it," she stated. Her sister-in-law always blamed it on the baby and ate everything.

A week before she posted her story on Reddit, OP came home from work and made dinner for herself. She went to the bathroom while she waited for it to cool down.

When she returned, she saw her sister-in-law had gobbled up almost all of her dinner. Food was the only thing she was looking forward to after starving the entire day, so she lost her cool when she saw her sister-in-law, who started crying after she shouted at her.

Her brother and mother came out to see what was happening and they screamed at OP, blamed her for making her sister-in-law cry.

"Get out of my house!" she screamed back while pointing towards the door. But her brother and mother didn't take her seriously and told her no one was leaving the house.

The girl stomped towards her room and shut the door tight before calling her uncle, who had previously offered to buy the house from her. She asked him if his offer still stood, and he assured her he would buy the house and evict her mother and brother.

When she told them about the eviction, they were shocked. They accused her of being selfish and tagged her on social media posts, blaming her for mistreating them. She had been staying with a friend at the time after leaving the house.

Feeling confused, she posted her story on Reddit to ask other people if she was at fault. A Redditor assured her that she was not at fault.

"They stomped all over you, man. They didn't treat you like family, so why should you treat them that way?" The Reddit user questioned.

"The way the post is written, it sounds like OP is selling the house just to get herself away from her family, not because she actually wants to part with her dad's house," Redditor forged_from_fire wrote. The user asked her to think about it before taking any step.

Meanwhile, Redditor Quetzacoatyl77 said they would never sell their father's house because of its memories. The user thought it would be better to give notice and call the police to evict her brother and sister-in-law.

Most Redditors assured the girl that she wasn't at fault. Some people asked her to seek help from a lawyer because they thought she had decided to sell the house in a hurry.

Questions To Ponder:

Do you think the girl shouldn't have stayed quiet in the beginning?

When her brother and sister-in-law moved into the house, she told them to leave. When they said they wouldn't, she gave up and stayed quiet. After some time, she asked them to go again but kept silent when they announced their pregnancy. Do you think she should have stood firmer in asking them to leave the first time?

Would you call the police to kick out your family members?

Some people thought calling the police would help, while others thought her brother and sister-in-law wouldn't budge even if the police asked them to leave. On the other hand, they would also fuss about calling the police on them. Would you involve the police if you were OP?
