Rich Old Lady’s Son Marries Poor Girl, Learns He Cannot Claim Mom’s Inheritance 2 Hours Later – Story of the Day
Gloria did not trust his son George's new bride, Anastacia, so she decided to give a shocking speech at his wedding reception, which caused a considerable commotion that revealed an underlying truth.
Gloria Sandford grabbed the microphone and cleared her throat. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, family and friends. I'm George's mother, Gloria, for anyone who doesn't know me…," she began, smiling like nothing was wrong in the world.
But there was. Her son, George, had just married his girlfriend Anastasia two hours ago, even though they had only dated a few months. Gloria had warned her son that she didn't trust the woman. Of course, he didn't like hearing her opinions and discredited them immediately.

"Mom, you only mistrust her because she doesn't come from money. That's not fair," George stated during their first dinner together. Anastacia had just gone to the restroom, and Gloria had voiced her concerns.
George stood up, almost knocking his chair to the ground. "Mom!"
"That's not the reason, George. I've been around many people of all walks of life, and you know I'm not a snob despite our money," the older woman countered. "I just feel off about her."
"Why?" he asked defensively.
"When you're not looking, her expression completely changes. It's like she puts on this perfect woman act, but the minute you're not around or not looking, it cuts off. It's chilling," Gloria revealed quietly and sincerely.
But George shook his head. "I don't believe that. Anastacia is wonderful. She honestly doesn't care about money. I would know. I don't want to hear anymore about this, okay?"
Gloria pursed her lips and didn't say another word.

Unfortunately, George paid no attention to her warnings and proposed to Anastacia a few months later. They rushed to get married, claiming they didn't want a big spectacle, so their ceremony was small but still expensive in many ways. It was held at a great spot in Georgia.
During the reception, Gloria decided to give a toast to reveal something important.
"It's wonderful to be here at my son and Anastacia's wedding. I hope they have many years of happiness ahead, and I'm looking forward to celebrating many milestones to come," she began. "But I stand here because I want to give you both a great gift," Gloria continued, staring at the newlyweds. "For years, my life was defined by my family's money. All the people I dated or befriended were questioned, and I don't want my son to suffer that anymore. Therefore, I've decided to strike him out of my will and leave all my family's extensive wealth to charity so this won't cause any problems in their marriage. Cheers, everyone!"

Gloria raised her glass to a deadly quiet room until the silence was broken by Anastacia, who began to sob loudly.
George stood up, almost knocking his chair to the ground. "Mom!"
He leaned back down to pat his new wife on the back when she suddenly ripped herself out of his arms and got up from her seat. "Don't touch me! I can't believe this! All my work for months for this! Your mother is a horrible woman! And you are just… the most boring person ever! I can't stand you, and now that you have no money! Please!" she wailed and yelled. "I'm going to file for divorce immediately! Maybe I can get something out of that!"
George stood frozen in his spot, but Anastacia didn't care. She turned around, grabbed her expensive gown with her two hands, and marched toward the exit. Her family members filed out, and the rest of the guests eventually left too because it was too awkward.

Gloria had stayed in the same spot where she delivered her toast for the entire time and saw her son exiting the wedding venue at some point. When she was sure that everyone had left, she went to find him.
George was sitting on the steps of the building, his head in his hand and his fingers desperately running through his hair. The older woman took a seat next to him and patted his back.
"First, I want to say that I never wanted to do something so drastic. But I felt I had to do it," Gloria whispered to her son, who lifted his head and had visible tears on his cheeks. He was shaking his head at her.
"I… I don't know what to say. At first, I was so angry at you, but… I… I never expected Anastacia to do or say those things," George said slowly, his voice breaking.
"I didn't know her mask would fall off like that," Gloria added, still patting her son's back.
"How did you know she was lying?"

"I tried to explain it before. It's all about feeling, I guess. I was in such situations before. Money can make people crazy sometimes," she tried to explain while comforting him.
"What am I going to do now? She's going to file for divorce. Can she get something?" he wondered, finally wiping his tears and putting on a game.
"Oh, no. We're going to file for an annulment immediately. A one-day marriage is not going to get her anything in a divorce anyway. But an annulment is easier because she literally walked out right after her wedding. We're going to our lawyer right now," Gloria revealed, smiling for the first time at her son.
"Thank you, Mom. Thank you," George said, and they both stood up. It was time to get this over with and move on.

Anastacia got her lawyer to try to fight George and get something out of him. Still, in the end, she couldn't get anything because several people had witnessed how she belittled her new husband at the wedding after his mother's announcement.
Several years later, George found a good woman, who honestly didn't care about money, and Gloria adored her.
