Who Was Ann Turner Cook? All to Know about the Face behind the Original Gerber Baby
The Gerber Baby's identity has led to wild speculation across America, but eventually, she revealed herself. There is, however, more to this woman than a face on a product.
The mysterious Gerber Baby's identity was kept under wraps for decades, spurring crazy theories about who it could be.
United States citizens from all over the country completed a survey, providing their opinions on who they thought this face belonged to beyond the sketch. Some thought it was Elizabeth Taylor, others Humphrey Bogart, Jane Seymour, and many more.
WHO IS THE GERBER BABY?
Eventually, the Gerber Baby's identity was revealed in 1978, and it was Ann Turner Cook, who recently passed away at 95 years old. The Gerber company sent their condolences via Instagram in a heartfelt message.
They wrote about how great she was as a mother, teacher, and writer and what a profound impact she had on people as the Gerber Baby.
A neighbor, Dorothy Hope Smith, drew Cook's face when she was a baby and entered it into an advertising campaign contest. No one would have guessed that this drawing would end up as the face of the Gerber Products Company from the late 1920s going forward.
As she grew older, while many were buying the famous Gerber Products with her face on them, Cook obtained a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in English.
Her husband, James Cook, worked in criminology, and they had three daughters, Jan Cook, Carol Legarreta, Kathy Cook, and a son, Clifford.
She eventually retired as an English teacher and wrote mystery novels. She has left behind eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
WHO IS THE NEW GERBER BABY?
In 2021, 4-month-old Zane Kahin was announced as the new Gerber Baby. His parents, Micheal and Erin, were ecstatic. It was just one more gift that the family received after the couple's arduous journey to conceive.
When she was 27 years old, Erin had to undergo breast cancer treatment. These circumstances left her and Micheal worried about whether they could have a baby or not. Miraculously, the pair managed to have Zane without any fertility treatments.
Being the Gerber Baby benefits more than just having one's face on products. The family has received many free products and $25,000 in cash.
Another famous baby who the world is watching is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Lilibet Diana. It was reported that, during the Jubilee, the Queen would finally get to meet her great-granddaughter for the first time.
Lilibet's name stems from the Queen herself, who used to be called by that name when she was young. Many people believed that this connection would make their meeting more meaningful.
