Emma Roberts’ Relationship with Her Aunt Julia Roberts

Emma Roberts grew up close to her famous aunt, Julia Roberts. Here's a glimpse of their relationship before and in recent years, including a feud with Emma's father, Eric Roberts.

Since becoming a mom, Emma Roberts began to value and appreciate the time to herself. Those moments alone are made even more special and comfortable with a few items the actress claimed she couldn't live without.

One of them is a classic natural sound machine, which she keeps in her bedroom to relax and fall asleep. Another is a CBT bath salt, which she uses during bath time, after a hard day's work, and after putting her son to sleep.

"Baths are my time to read, decompress, and disconnect," she said. A must-have book on her list is "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" by author Joan Didion. Specifically, she enjoys reading in a dark room with another trusted item, a headlamp flashlight. Emma said:

"The lights in my bathroom are all connected, so it's either pitch black or super bright. My sister came over the other night, came in, and was like,' What's going on in here?' And I was like, 'What? I'm reading a good book.' It's the best."

Perhaps one more thing the "Unfabulous" alum can't live without is her aunt, Julia Roberts, with whom she shares a special bond.

HOW ARE EMMA ROBERTS AND JULIA ROBERTS RELATED?

Julia is Emma's aunt through the child star's father, Eric Roberts. The actresses have been close since Emma's younger years, and both had a strained relationship with Eric in the past.

Eric, who previously had problems with addiction, wanted custody of Emma and battled her daughter's mother, Kelly Cunningham, in court.

As Julia watched the situation, she took Kelly's side and even funded her legal expenses as she believed her brother could not take care of Emma under his circumstances. Thankfully, Julia and Emma eventually reconciled with Eric.

Despite all the challenges and changes their family underwent, one thing remained constant -- Julia and Emma's close relationship. The "Wild Child" star even recalled coming with her aunt to movie sets and hiding in her trailer as a child.

Growing up in the entertainment industry, Emma eventually pursued a career in acting, following the footsteps of the "Notting Hill" star. In her growing years, up until today, Emma and Julia often see each other and bond through Mahjong and card games.

As Emma became an actress, people could not help but compare her to her famous aunt. Nevertheless, the younger Roberts never felt the need to be just like Julia. Instead, she followed her own path and made her own mistakes.

"I never aspired to be her. I love her so much. I love her work, but I'm just doing my own thing," she said, as reported by People. There was no pressure on Emma's end, although she admired Julia's expertise in the craft.

Emma began her career as a young actress and starred in "Aquamarine," "Nancy Drew," and "Hotel for Dogs." She later transitioned into television shows for older people, such as "American Horror Story" and "Scream Queens."

Although now a mom, Emma is not putting her career on hold. She shares her son with Garrett Hedlund, whom she began dating in 2019.

After her son's birth, Roberts began supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and initiated a campaign to help end childhood cancer. Her announcement of her active support prompted others to raise awareness and show compassion for the cause.
