Paul Sorvino's Actress Daughter Mira Mourns 'Wonderful' Dad Who Was Her Teacher & Supported Her Career
"Goodfellas" was a film enterprise known and loved by many; sadly, one of the film's stars has recently passed away. After his death, Paul Sorvino's daughter shared a loving tribute to her father.
Sorvino passed away on July 25, 2022, and almost as soon as his death was announced, tributes began pouring in from fans, costars, and friends. Two of the most poignant tributes were by his daughter, Mira, and his wife, Dee Dee.
The actor's daughter shared tributes on both Instagram and Twitter in which she said her father was an incredible person and that he would be dearly missed. His wife was understandably heartbroken, too.

Dee Dee took to Instagram to post a photo of herself and Sorvino. She captioned the photo with two short sentences expressing her devastation and mourning for her husband. DeeDee described Sorvino as the love of her life.
Sorvino's publicist confirmed that the actor died of natural causes after encountering many health issues over the past few years. The actor was 83 years old when he passed away.
Dee Dee and Sorvino got married in 2014, and the actor's wife shared another statement through Sorvino's publicist, saying:
“Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage.”
Aside from Sorvino's wife, he is survived by his three children that he shared with Lorraine Davies, his first wife. His children are Amanda Sorvino, Michael Sorvino, and Mira Sorvino, who successfully followed in her father's footsteps.
While Sorvino had many unique projects such as "For The Love of Money," "Dick Tracy," and "A Touch Of Class," his most famous project to date was "Goodfellas." The actor starred in this film in 1990 when he was 51.
SORVINO'S RELATIONSHIP WITH MIRA
"Daddy's girl" is a term often used to describe the relationship between a father and daughter. This term was accurate for Mira and Sorvino because they shared a close bond as Mira grew up.
Growing up, Mira wanted to be an actor, an anthropologist, or an astronaut. Sorvino encouraged all his children to choose their own careers and not necessarily pursue acting. However, Mira decided that this path she wanted to take.
Once Sorvino accepted that acting was his daughter's passion and the career path that she wanted to take, he gave the girl some acting lessons. Mira and her childhood friend, Hope Davis, used to put on plays for their neighbors, but it was another scenario that Sorvino helped with.
Mira was in a play in school and was required to kiss a boy on the cheek. Knowing precisely what Mira was going through, Sorvino advised his daughter to think of her crush, Elvis Presley, as she planted a kiss on the boy's cheek.
Mira felt that her dad influenced her acting career so much that when she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1996, she included her father in her acceptance speech, saying he was the reason she was the actress she was.
The young woman understood the advantage her father gave her. She credited her father with teaching her the ins and outs of the job and then brought him to tears in the audience by saying:
“When you give me this award, you honor my father Paul Sorvino, who has taught me everything I know about acting.”
While Sorvino was there to support his daughter as she got her award, the support went both ways as Mira often accompanied her father to awards shows and other things he enjoyed.
Sorvino was an artist and enjoyed painting and sculpting, but the father-daughter duo often went to museums together when they were in the same place. The actor also sang opera and enjoyed listening to the music.
Mira also joined the #MeToo movement. When she did, her father supported her, showing that he was angry on her behalf for everything she had experienced by saying his daughter was beautiful and courageous and didn't deserve the treatment she got.
He also shared a couple of choice words about what he might like to do to the person who caused his daughter harm but ultimately said he wished only for the person to be imprisoned for life.
MIRA SHOWS HER FATHER LOVE
Since Sorvino passed away and Mira shared the sweet tribute to him on Instagram and Twitter, she has been relatively quiet. However, she had been vocal about her love for her father in the past couple of months and over the years prior.
In fact, just a few months before he passed away, she shared a sweet photo of the two of them, captioned "Missing you, Dad!"
The post she shared on Instagram hours after his death was simply a captionless black square on Instagram. She shared her thoughts on Twitter before she posted the captionless photo on Instagram.
The Twitter post contained all her feelings as she shared with the world that she was heartbroken by her father's death. She shared:
“My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much.”
Almost as soon as news of Sorvino's passing got out, fellow actors, fans, and friends of the actor began flooding their social media pages with tributes to the great actor. Most of the comments were left under Mira's post.
Vincent D'Onofrio said that Sorvino always treated him like a younger brother and would never forget him, while Rob Reiner told Mira that he was sorry for her loss. Robert Denby recalled "Goodfellas" being the first movie memory he had.
Another tribute, not posted in reply to Mira's post, was from Jason Alexander, who said that Sorvino was a magnificent actor in any role he played. He then captioned the post #rippaulsorvino.
Among those tributes were many others from those he had worked with and those whose lives he had touched throughout the years. Rest in peace to an incredible actor, father, husband, and friend.
