Boy, 16, in a Coma after Hit-And-Run: 'People Won't Even Leave a Dog on the Road like That'
It was a regular Monday morning for a Texas teenager riding his bike. Suddenly, he felt a massive jerk after a vehicle hit him and sped off. What happened next was something his family had never expected.
Isaiah Rousey, a 16-year-old from Atascocita, Texas, was loved by his family and friends. The boy was known for his kind heart and caring nature, and his family wished to see him succeed.
Everything was going well in the teenager's life until the morning he left the house on his bike. Never in a million years had his family imagined that Rousey would not return home that day.
A Usual Morning
On October 17, 2022, Rousey was riding a bike in the early hours of the day near 8311 FM-1960 when an unfortunate incident turned his life upside down.
The teenager was suddenly hit by a vehicle and landed in a nearby ditch. According to authorities, the driver sped off instead of stopping and helping the kid. Rousey's aunt, Roxan Gonzalez, said:
"You can't just leave the scene. You can't leave a human being that way. People won't even leave a dog on the road like that."
The Unfortunate Incident
Rousey's family had no idea he was in trouble that morning until a kind passerby spotted him in the ditch after noticing his damaged bike. The injured teenager was moved to Texas Children's Hospital.
The boy's family was in disbelief upon learning what had happened to him. They had heard about multiple hit-and-run cases on TV but had never imagined they would deal with a similar situation. Gonzalez said:
"We never thought that it would hit home."
The Injured Boy
While Rousey's aunt agreed he shouldn't have been riding his bike in the early hours of the day, she also said he didn't deserve to get into an unsafe situation in his own neighborhood.
The doctors put Rousey in a medically-induced coma while they treated him for his countless injuries. His mother had never imagined she would have to see her lively son lying unresponsive on the hospital bed. She said:
"We will get through this difficult time, my son, in the name of God!"
A Great Kid
"He's a great kid. He's a good kid with a good heart," Gonzalez said while stating that her nephew didn't deserve to get hit. She requested her friends on Facebook to help her find the driver of the vehicle that hit Rousey. She added:
"He [Rousey] is an amazing young man, very loveable, funny, spunky, energetic, and so full of life!"
Meanwhile, the authorities continued searching for evidence that would help them locate the driver. They urged citizens to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office or Rousey's family if they knew anything about the unfortunate incident.
The Support
While Rousey fought for his life in the hospital, his family prayed for his recovery and hoped the authorities would soon identify the driver. Meanwhile, netizens sent messages of support to the worried family. Here are some of the comments they left on Facebook:
"Keep your faith up. He is young, strong, and will pull through this in Jesus's name."

Rousey's family was grateful to the woman who stopped by and spotted him when she saw his broken bike. They asked people to give them some time while they tried to process what happened to their "brave and strong" boy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Rousey's family, and we pray that the teenager soon recovers. We also hope the authorities locate the driver as soon as possible.
