When Lewis Hamilton was coming up as a race driver, Anthony Hamilton, his dad, and manager, was the only person of color he would see at the race track. He was his son's protector when the youngster was bullied at school over his stature and race.

When the F1 world champion got his MBE in 2008 took his dad and stepmom, but his mom was on his arm when he was knighted on New Year's Day 2021.

Lewis Hamilton's Relationship with His Parents

Carmen Larbalestier and Anthony Hamilton welcomed their only son together on January 7, 1985, Lewis, named after the American Olympian Carl Lewis. The couple separated when he was only 2, and both moved on to new relationships shortly after.

Lewis spent his early years with his mom, her boyfriend Raymond Lockhart, and two half-sisters, Nicola and Samantha. When he was twelve, Larbalestier and Lockhart relocated their family from rural Stevenage, England, to London.

With his prospects with the McLaren team, the pre-teen decided to stay in Stevenage with his dad, stepmom Linda, and half-brother Nicholas.

The F1 champ said in August 2020 that the adage that 'behind every successful man is a strong woman' is valid. Only he had two such women, the two women he calls mom, Larbalestier and Linda.

During his campaign to win his first title, both women were famously photographed embracing him at the Chinese Grand Prix in 2008. He credits them with teaching him how to be empathetic and compassionate.

Anthony and his son's relationship has received the most headlines on the positive and negative scale. But through it, all the Mercedes driver has always appreciated his dad's hard work to get him where he is today.

Lewis Decided to Change His Name for His Mother's Sake

Lewis took Larbalestier as his plus-one when he was knighted in the 2021 New Year's honors. Building up to the event, he sent his mother on a shopping trip to the department store Selfridges. He said that she made the day exceptional:

"I looked to my right, and she was just standing there with the biggest smile I've ever seen. So that was, for me, one of the most special moments I've ever experienced."

The Brit announced in March 2022 that he plans to bestow an honor of his own on Larbalestier by incorporating her last name into his. The driver said that he did not understand why a woman lost her last name upon marriage and wanted Larbalestier to live on alongside Hamilton.

Larbalestier's absences from his early races led to gossip about a rift in the extended family. However, the combination of a lack of funds for international races and a desire to be out of the spotlight kept the secretary away then.

Anthony was his progeny's manager until 2010 when his unexpected axing by his son became fodder in the tabloids.

For her 60th birthday in 2015, Sir Hamilton threw his mother a surprise bash in London, commissioning Jessie J as the entertainment. He said on IG that all the hard work was well worth surprising the "most amazing woman in the world."

Lewis Is Inspired by His Dad Anthony Hamilton

Anthony was born in the UK to immigrant parents from Grenada. The Hamiltons lived in west London before putting roots in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. He was a dedicated father and provider, but Lewis says his dad never gave him a hug when he was younger.

He was the driving force behind his son's start in the motoring world, from racing electric cars to go-karts to the lauded F1 circuit. To achieve this, the elder Hamilton worked up to four jobs at a time to fund the notoriously expensive sport.

Anthony was his progeny's manager until 2010, when the unexpected axing by his son became fodder in the tabloids. Despite his disappointment, he supported his son's decision to be his "own man." The pair have overcome their differences, and he is back on team Lewis.

Father and son had their first solo vacation in February 2020 to further repair their bond lost in the business side of their relationship. Lewis shared a moving image of the pair walking on the beach into the sunset.

The F1 race places Anthony high with his other role models, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King. He says that he is constantly inspired by his father and still relies on him daily:

"You know, he's the first person I will call after my race to see, 'Were you watching, dad? What did you think?'"

Lewis' Stepmother Denied Herself Many Things for His Sake

Linda came into Lewis' life soon after his parents split. On her birthday on Mach 27, 2022, he wrote a soaring tribute to her as the woman who made many sacrifices for him to get where he is and said:

"When you see me, you see her. Making her proud is truly one of the best feelings in the world."

She is a fixture at his races as he tied with Michael Schumacher in world championship wins. He praised her again in April 2022, saying she gave up a lot to make his dream a reality, underlining that his father could not have done it alone.

Linda and Anthony's son, Nicholas, was born with cerebral palsy, which had him in a wheelchair in his youth. In a modified vehicle, he is a racing diver in the British Touring Car Championship. In 2022 his big brother organized him a day as a Mercedes driver.
