Anthony Head's Daughters Share Emotional Words Following the Actor's Passing
The entertainment world is mourning the loss of a beloved screen favorite, but the most heartbreaking part of the story did not emerge immediately. As tributes poured in from co-stars, friends, and fans, Anthony Head's daughters revealed the deeply personal details that made his final chapter all the more emotional.
Best known to millions as Rupert Giles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Anthony Head died at age 72, leaving behind a career that spanned decades and included some of television's most memorable roles.
Born in Camden, London, Anthony came from a creative family. His mother, Helen Shingler, was an actress, while his father, Seafield Head, worked as a documentary filmmaker.

He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before building the career that would eventually make him one of Britain's most recognizable actors.
From "Merlin" and "Little Britain" to "Ted Lasso" and "Doctor Who," Anthony built a reputation as one of Britain's most respected and versatile performers. Yet behind the celebrated career was a devoted family man whose loved ones are now sharing their grief.

A Family's Heartfelt Goodbye
In a statement shared following his death, Anthony's daughters, Emily Head and Daisy Head, described the profound loss facing their family. "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father," they said.
The sisters added, "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many."
Emily and Daisy also reflected on their father's connection with audiences throughout his career.

They said they knew "how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues and fans of the show he was in," adding that he "loved his job very much" and "always considered himself incredibly lucky."
The sisters noted that his legacy would continue long after his passing and said they felt fortunate to have watched him spend his life doing what he loved.

The Tragic Detail Behind His Final Days
As tributes continued to flood in, Anthony's daughters shared details explaining what happened in his final days. In their statement, Emily and Daisy revealed:
"He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family."
The statement offered a glimpse into Anthony's final moments, showing that despite the health complications, he was with those closest to him when he died. For many fans, the revelation added an even more emotional dimension to the loss of an actor who had become a familiar face across generations of television viewers.
A Second Heartbreak in Less Than a Year
What makes the story even more devastating is that Anthony's death came only months after another major tragedy struck his family. In December 2025, Emily and Daisy announced the sudden death of their mother, Sarah Fisher, Anthony's longtime partner of more than three decades.

Sharing the news at the time, the sisters wrote:
"We are so sorry to have to share the news that our extraordinary, kind, and talented mother, Sarah, passed away recently. It is immensely shocking to us all, and came with very little warning."
They added that, "No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left. We know how profoundly she has impacted the lives of so many, and we couldn't be more proud of the legacy she is leaving behind."
The back-to-back losses have left many fans reflecting on the difficult period the family has endured over the past year.

A Love Story That Lasted More Than Three Decades
Anthony and Sarah's relationship stretched across 32 years and remained one of the actor's most cherished parts of his life. The couple first met in the early 1980s when Sarah was working as an administrative assistant at the National Theatre while Anthony was appearing in a production of "Danton's Death."
Over the years, Anthony frequently spoke about Sarah's influence on him and the grounding effect she had on his life. "There's nothing better than coming home to her," he said in a 2012 interview.

He also joked that Sarah regularly told him to "get over myself quite a lot" whenever he became too caught up in the pressures of work.
Despite his fame and years spent working internationally, Anthony often credited their relationship as one of the reasons he remained balanced throughout his career.
"I might come off set with my head up my [expletive], but as soon as I'm back with Sarah, I'm grounded again. I wouldn't say she wears the trousers, but I probably ask for her advice more than she asks for mine," he said.

Stars Pay Tribute to a Television Legend
Following news of his death, the BBC reported that some of Anthony's most famous co-stars shared emotional tributes. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred alongside him for years in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," posted a collection of photographs and reflected on their friendship.
"'Tell Giles I figured it out and I'm ok'. Well, I don't have it figured out, and I'm not ok. But I know I'm the lucky one because I knew you," she wrote.
Gellar also thanked Anthony's daughters, saying, "Thank you to Daisy and Emily, who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world."

David Boreanaz remembered his former co-star as someone who was "so kind and generous of a soul." James Marsters called him "an unflaggingly kind and steady presence on the set of Buffy, and the best actor in the cast."
Meanwhile, "Little Britain" creator Matt Lucas praised Anthony as "unfailingly brilliant, and always so kind and warm." Brett Goldstein, who worked with him on "Ted Lasso," summed up the feeling shared by many colleagues.

"Anthony Head was a brilliant actor who played the worst person in the world, which was an incredible skill because he was the best person." Author Harlan Coben echoed that sentiment, writing that Anthony "brought joy and warmth and sparkle and wonder to every room he entered."

A Career That Touched Generations
Anthony's acting career stretched from stage productions and television dramas to blockbuster international hits. Many fans first discovered him through the hugely successful Gold Blend coffee commercials opposite Sharon Maughan in the late 1980s, before he became internationally recognized as Giles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
He later appeared in projects including "Merlin," "The Iron Lady," "Doctor Who," "Motherland," "Silent Witness," "The Inbetweeners," "Bridgerton," and "Ted Lasso."

Away from television, he also enjoyed an extensive stage career, appearing in productions of "The Rocky Horror Show," "Godspell," and "Chess."
Today, as fans revisit the performances that defined his career, it is perhaps the words of his daughters that resonate most strongly — a reminder that behind the beloved characters was a father whose greatest legacy extends far beyond the screen.
