Katie Sturm and her husband, Chris Sturm, were ecstatic when they discovered they were welcoming a little one. However, Katie's excitement turned to tears of shock when doctors revealed she was expecting more than one baby. She was having quadruplets!

Two weeks after the discovery, Katie was handed more unexpected news. She was sick, and her husband worried about her and their unborn children.

The Doctors Made a Shocking Discovery

The Fort Worth, Texas couple's world changed completely within a few weeks. One moment they were processing the news of Katie's multiple pregnancies, and the next, they were dealing with her severe health struggles.

While three months pregnant, Katie had a seizure at work—the root of the problem was devastating. She shared:

"And then two weeks later, I found out that I had a brain tumor. It was sort of hard to believe."

The Pregnant Woman Needed Brain Surgery

The then-26-year-old woman needed brain surgery, which was very risky for her and the babies. But doctors were stunned by the mom's strength and determination amid the challenging times.

Her surgeon, Dr. Toral Patel, initially thought she was being pranked when news about Katie's situation reached her office. Operating on a woman expecting quadruplets was never ideal, but Dr. Patel knew it was necessary.

Katie also shared a surprising piece of information that added to the wonder of her story. As a teenager, she had a medical condition that led to a warning from doctors.

The Risk of Losing His Family Was Real

The original plan was to remove the tumor after Katie gave birth. However, when Katie suffered a second seizure, doctors knew they had to act quickly and operate on her while pregnant.

Katie's husband, Chris, realized how real the risks of losing his spouse and kids were, but Dr. Patel called Katie "amazing" throughout the process, and she was relieved when they finally removed the tumor. The doctor added:

"She has coped with this better than anyone could have imagined. She's remarkable."

She Handed It over to God

Katie recovered well after her brain surgery, and in July 2020, she got ready to deliver her babies. She was 32 weeks pregnant and eager to meet Jacob, Daniel, Austin, and Hudson.

Her health journey was unique and challenging, but every tear was worth it. The resilient mom relied heavily on her faith, recalling:

"At that point, I had to turn it over to God, and I guess he wouldn't give me quadruplets if he didn't want me to be around for them."

The Quadruplets Are a Blessing

The quadruplets were born healthy and came out crying. And because they were conceived without the help of fertility treatments they beat the odds of one in 700,000, according to Dr. Patricia Santiago-Munoz.

Katie also shared a surprising piece of information that added to the wonder of her story. As a teenager, she had a medical condition that led to a warning from doctors. They told her she would never be able to have biological kids—she certainly proved them wrong many times over!

The Sturm family experienced miracle after miracle. Chris described the new adventure "fun and exceptionally challenging." And while life with four newborns was tough, mom Katie was grateful. "They are a blessing," she said.
