What began as a test of endurance soon spiralled into chaos. The tasks grew more demanding and unpredictable, pushing limits and sparking a moment that quickly set viewers talking.
Gemma Collins's latest Bushtucker Trial pushed her to the brink, delivering one of the most intense and talked-about moments in the current series of "I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! South Africa."
The 45-year-old reached her breaking point during a gruelling overnight trial on the ITV series, competing against fellow contestant Scarlett Moffatt across three relentless underground challenges.
The pair went head-to-head for gold nuggets to bring back to camp, but what unfolded had fans reaching for their keyboards before the episode had even finished.

What began as a test of endurance escalated into a multi-stage ordeal involving insects, forceful blasts of unknown substances, and physically demanding tasks deep within a mock coal mine setting.

In the opening round, Collins and Moffatt were required to grip onto overhead straps while maintaining their composure as ants crawled across their bodies. The situation intensified when a powerful jet of liquid unexpectedly blasted towards them.

The force appeared to overwhelm Collins, snapping her grip and knocking her backwards in a moment that proved decisive. Despite her visible effort to hold on, she conceded defeat, telling Moffatt — who secured three gold nuggets from the round:
"Oh, forget it. You've won."

The second challenge shifted underground, where both contestants were instructed via intercom to retrieve gold nuggets buried within piles of coal, navigating through restrictive barbed wire.

The environment became increasingly hostile as bursts of smoke erupted without warning, obscuring vision and adding pressure. Collins regained momentum here, securing eight nuggets, while Moffatt collected six, bringing her running total to nine.

Their final task placed them face-to-face with a series of enclosed boxes filled with live animals, including rats, scorpions, iguanas, cockroaches, and frogs. Hidden among them were more gold nuggets, forcing both women to confront their fears head-on.

As if that were not enough, opening some boxes triggered sudden eruptions of thick, slimy liquid that splashed across their faces and clothing. By the end, Collins had clawed her way back to a total of 16 nuggets, but Moffatt ultimately triumphed with 20.

The aftermath proved just as dramatic. Upon returning to camp, Collins appeared emotionally overwhelmed, breaking down during a confessional. She said tearfully, capturing the toll the trial had taken:
"I feel like you're trying to kill me. You're gonna kill me. It's, like, not even funny. I definitely feel like you're trying to kill me."
The scenes quickly sparked a wave of reaction online, with many rushing to defend Collins's performance. One person said, "Ridiculous. The objective of the first round was to hold on for dear life and Gemma did."
"Her straps broke coz [sic] the girl was holding on for dear life. The force of that literally knocked her off her feet @itv @imacelebrity #justiceforgemma," they added.

Another shared, "Still holding onto her straps that broke!! Makes me think that was done on purpose by itv to make a mockery of Gemma! 'Good tv' and all that. Not impressed. Well done Gemma you're doing AMAZING!! ❤️"

Support for Collins's resilience continued, with one netizen commenting that the force which caused the straps to break did not seem right and praising her strength, adding that many others would likely have quit under the same pressure. Others responded more emotionally, with one writing, "I want to hug her."

However, not all reactions were sympathetic. One commenter offered a more critical take, typing, "Gemma, I feel her pain. Oh, the rich life! The spoiled life! She so used to be waited on sitting around clicking her fingers, getting everything done for her."
"Now she living the poor life, the pain of it all is making her really believe that they trying to kill her. Because that something she not uses to is....walking. And that why she can't stop crying [sic]," they continued.
Whether viewed as a moment of vulnerability or controversy, Collins's reaction has undeniably become one of the defining talking points of the series so far, highlighting both the physical intensity of the trials and the emotional strain placed on contestants.
That reaction, however, was not the first time Collins had found herself at the centre of attention in this series — with her earlier arrival in camp already sparking conversation for very different reasons.
The television personality made her debut in the South Africa camp during the second episode of "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! South Africa," and was thrown straight into a head-to-head eating trial with fellow new arrival Craig Charles by hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.
Seven rounds of increasingly challenging "delicacies" stood between the pair and dinner for their campmates.
The trial opened with Critter Canapés — blended ants' eggs piped onto critter pastry crackers. Both contestants had to secretly choose how many they could eat, with the higher number committed to finishing the full count.
Collins pledged eight crackers and Charles pledged seven, meaning the former had to eat every single one to claim the points for her team. She gagged and cried through all of them, but still finished.
Round two brought cocktail sausages made from bull's penis. Charles pledged ten portions and Collins pledged five, so he took on the full ten for his team. He powered through and won every point.
Round three was Terror-ine — chicken hearts and intestines. Charles chose three portions and Collins chose two. He attempted all three but could not finish, and Collins, needing only two portions to claim her points, also could not manage it.
Fish Eye Pie arrived in round four — critter pastry filled with fish eyes. Both chose one piece each before being offered a bonus point for a second. Collins said no, Charles said yes, and he finished it.
Round five, Brain Freeze made from springbok brain, produced the trial's most memorable exchange. When offered a bonus point for a second portion, Collins agreed and Charles did not.
But in the end, the television personality just could not keep it down. The round ultimately ended in a forfeit, with the 45-year-old declaring, "Sorry. I can't. I'm going to be hospitalised." Charles was then offered the same bonus point for his single portion, but he declined.
Round six was Pig Nodies, made from pig testicles. Collins pledged two portions and Charles stopped at one. This time, she delivered on both and claimed the points.
Then came the finale. Bloody Mury shots, a blend of bull's heart and blood, started with both contestants choosing ten portions each. The numbers crept steadily upwards as neither backed down, until Collins declared she would down the entire tray of 30.
Charles matched her without hesitation, turning the round into a flat race against the clock, with 30 points for whoever got there first. However, viewers will have to return for the next episode to find out who won.
Still, fans watching at home were quick to respond, and the praise came immediately. "Well done Gemma, I'd be sick if I tried that, you're a star!" one viewer wrote, while others seemed taken aback.
"Like a different lady .. so impressed [sic]," one commented, while another added, "She's like a different person."
The price of appearing on such a trial also inspired some reflection. "I could NEVER do eating trials unless I got paid more than 5 million pounds," one viewer shared, which felt entirely reasonable given the menu.
Several viewers also took notice of Gemma Collins's appearance on screen. "Thought Gemma had lost a lot of weight," one wrote, while another typed, "Thought she had lost alot of weight she won't last [sic]."
A third jumped in with some context, noting, "I thought the same but this was last year so maybe she has since this was filmed."
As for what comes next in camp, at least one viewer was already weighing what lies ahead. "Hard to imagine GC doing any physical tasks or ones with height involved ..but she my surprise us all... [sic]," they added.
Whatever the next episode holds, the trial itself needs to be seen to be believed. Scroll down for a full look at the action as it unfolded, straight from the South African bush.
