Mom Refuses to Bring Lunch for 6-Year-Old Daughter to Teach Her a Lesson, Gets Slammed for It
A mother is being slammed for the choices she made surrounding her daughter's school lunch. In a resurfaced YouTube clip, Ruby Franke from 8 Passengers is being criticized for giving her young daughter a big responsibility.
Six-year-old Eve Franke was one of six children in her family and had forgotten her lunch at home. However, her mother refused to bring her lunch to school when the school informed her about it.
A video featuring this story was posted a while back by the mother, but it has recently resurfaced, angering people who believed the mother's actions were unwarranted.

The video begins with the mother, Ruby Franke, explaining that she received a text from her then-six-year-old daughter's school teacher to ask if she could bring her child lunch to school as she didn't have any. The teacher was uncomfortable with the little girl not eating as all her peers did.

What Was Ruby Franke Hoping to Achieve?
Ruby replied to the teacher's text saying that Eve was responsible for packing her own lunch. She also said Eve told her that morning that she had packed her lunch, so Ruby refused to give in to what the teacher wanted her to do. According to her, bringing her daughter's lunch to school would not teach her anything.
Ruby said: “Hopefully nobody gives her food and nobody steps in and gives her a [sic] lunch because then she’s not gonna learn."
The mother of six confirmed that she hoped her daughter would come home realizing how painful it was to be hungry all day and wouldn't repeat the same mistake.
Later in the video, the family is seen standing in their kitchen as the kids returned from school. Ruby quipped:
"I know Eve must be hungry."
Ruby then calls Eve into the kitchen and says she has a snack for her. Eve expresses joy and confirms that she is hungry, but before she can eat, Ruby asks what she should do in the morning before school.
Eve looks into the camera and confirms that she will be packing her own lunch and snack. Ruby then tells her daughter she knows she is hungry and encourages her to go and eat.
Franke Got Slammed
While the YouTube video on Ruby's channel was shared three years ago, it recently resurfaced on a news publication's Facebook page, where readers immediately began criticizing the mother.

One asked if Ruby believed she was a good mother and said that a mother's duty is to protect and care for her child, which they felt she was failing at. The commenter even went so far as to suggest it was neglectful of Ruby to leave her daughter without lunch.
Another said Ruby didn't need children since she only thought of herself. The person added that the most important thing is ensuring your child is fed. One also expressed that a mother's job is to provide for their child and that if Ruby couldn't raise her children correctly, she should allow somebody else to do so.
Others suggested that Ruby help her daughter prepare her lunch so she could teach her hygiene and the correct way to make it herself. Many agreed that daughters should be taught how to be independent but that children should never be left to go hungry.

Some thought there was nothing wrong with Ruby expecting her daughter to learn to pack her own lunch, but that it was her responsibility to make sure her daughter doesn't forget to bring it.
Many felt that Eve was far too young at six to be responsible for her lunch and that Ruby should have allowed her more time before being expected to take on such roles in her life.
Overall, readers were disgusted that a six-year-old went hungry for an entire day at school simply because her mom thought she needed to learn a lesson and said that they would never do that to their own children.

Ruby's YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, has not been active for some time now, yet it still gets views on her old videos and comments from fans and those who believe her family dynamic is odd.
While Eve didn't get any lunch, a lunch lady at a different school had a wonderful experience when students surprised her with tickets to see her mother. Read the full story here.
