Sian Goodsell and her husband, Jason Goodsell, met on Tinder in 2014. After becoming an item, they traveled around Australia in February 2017.

Jason later asked Sian to marry him, and she said yes. He proposed while the pair were walking down to the beach at sunset in Bunbury, Western Australia.

Much to the couple's shock, Jason was diagnosed with stage four bowel and liver cancer six days later. Sian revealed in a recent interview that Jason fought "hard and well" for two years. He received treatment, but it did not work. The couple legally wed on May 3, 2019, and were set to celebrate their nuptials at a later stage. However, Jason tragically died the same evening he legally married. He was in his thirties.

Jason Froze His Sperm

When Jason was undergoing cancer treatment, he and his wife decided to freeze his sperm. After he passed away, she went ahead and tried IVF, inseminating herself with his genetic material.

Sian, an Australian nurse, fell pregnant immediately after her first try. However, she went into an "extremely early" labor. She went to Nepean Hospital in Sydney, where she was informed that she was about to give birth.

But she was in denial and believed it was a false alarm. Still, deep down, Sian knew her child's arrival was too early and did not want to believe it.

She explained in an August 2023 interview that, as a nurse, she knew that it was a cause for concern. Although doctors tried to slow her labor, it did not work. Sian welcomed her and Jason's daughter, Matilda, on December 26, 2022. Sadly, she could not hold her newborn at after giving birth naturally. Matilda was instantly taken away and was later intubated and taken to NICU.

Matilda's Condition Worsened after Being Born Premature

Three weeks after being hospitalized at Nepean Hospital, Sian's daughter was transferred to The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney. She had developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). This condition is considered severe as tissues in the intestine become inflamed and start to die. It can therefore lead to a perforation developing, which can cause leakage into the abdomen.

Matilda underwent surgery on January 18, 2023, where doctors operated on her perforated bowel for four hours. She was fitted with an ileostomy bag – which was later reversed. The infant spent approximately 17 weeks and two days in the special Grace Centre NICU, and her beloved mom was always beside her.

The mother of one admitted it was difficult to go through that ordeal without her spouse. Thankfully, her bundle of joy was discharged from the NICU on May 17, 2023.

Sian was thrilled and overwhelmed to bring her child home with her. Matilda, who was born four months prematurely, is now six months old. She said she is the spitting image of her late father. Sian divulged she often tells her little girls stories about her and her dad, including what he was like.

The widowed mother keeps his memory alive by having photos of him around the house. Sian said, "Tilly will always know her dad." Sian gave birth three years after Jason's death. She admitted, "It's nice to have a piece of him here," in reference to the couple's daughter.
