Mom Refuses to Kill Her Daughter’s Lice, Explains Her Decision
A worried mother of a seven-year-old girl, who was friends with the girl from next door, discovered her neighbor's daughter had head lice. To her surprise, the mother knew but did not do anything about it because she was vegan.
A concerned mother shared an unsettling story about her neighbor, but she was stuck on what to do because their daughters are best friends.
The woman explained that her seven-year-old daughter was friends with the girl from next door, River, whose family was vegan. She had no disputes about how the family lived and even made special food for River when she visited, but one thing made her uncomfortable.

The mother said, "My problem is that recently this otherwise delightful child was at our house and scratching furiously... and I discovered she was crawling with head lice."
What Happened When the Concerned Mother Confronted Her Neighbor?
The fact that the child had head lice was nothing she worried about because she knew it was a common thing most parents needed to deal with.

So from one concerned mother to another, the woman mentioned the head lice to her neighbor, only to be shocked that she was aware of the situation but chose not to do anything about it.
The neighbor told her, "Vegans don't kill any living things." She planned to comb out the lice into the garden for them to survive. "My jaw hit the floor." remarked the woman. The seven-year-old's mother was worried about how to handle the situation because she did not want to separate the kids.

But at the same time, she knew combing the lice into the garden would not solve anything. This meant she would be subjecting her daughter to lice as well, which she was unwilling to do.
What Did Readers Think about the Vegan Neighbor’s Reasoning?
Readers were just as shocked as the woman who submitted her concerns on 9Coach. Even the website's agony aunt, Alexandra Carlton, was baffled by the neighbor's reason and solution to get rid of the lice.

Carlton tried her best to advise the woman on how she could handle the dilemma. However, ultimately she realized that the best way might be to threaten that her daughter would not be allowed to play with River until she got rid of the lice.

Although it risked tainting her relationship with her neighbor, the agon aunty believed watching the kids suffer would be more heartbreaking than handling something as minor as lice.
In the meantime, Carlton suggested the mother keep her daughter's hair in a tight ponytail and spray it with conditioner and tee tree oil to avoid her catching lice.

One reader thought it was "child abuse" because the lice would only make her daughter sicker. "Surely the well-being of her child is worth more than the well-being of a nit!!" proclaimed another commenter.

Others wondered if the neighbor would still stick to the same reason if she were the one infested with lice. One commenter suggested that the school should be informed so other children weren't infected. They even demanded that the neighbor be reported to child services.
