Gal Gadot became a prominent name internationally after landing the iconic and titular role in the film "Wonder Woman." Since rising to fame, fans have become curious about the actress's life and background, including her family.

The Israeli actress was born to Irit Gadot and Michael Gadot and raised to be a strong and independent woman, not to be a famous Hollywood celebrity. Her parents initially did not support her decision to leave school and pursue acting.

Who Are Gal Gadot's Parents?

Gal's parents had careers far from the entertainment industry. Irit was a teacher, while Michael was an engineer. Had their daughter not been an actress, she would have chosen a legal profession as a lawyer. Although Irit has her own Instagram page, her daughter sometimes posts about her on social media.

In 2016, Gal called Irit her "personal Wonder Woman" as a tribute for Mother's Day. She also posted a birthday greeting for her father in 2020, revealing how much she missed him amidst the pandemic. At that time, the actress was filming "Red Notice" alongside Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson.

How Did Gal Gadot's Parents Raise Her?

Michael and Irit raised their daughter to be ambitious and driven. "My parents taught me, 'Be like a horse,'" Gal said. "Horses are only focusing on their lane, so they were like, 'Just focus on your own path.'"

Michael and Irit became supportive parents.

They didn't teach her to be a show star or be famous, so Gal didn't have it in mind to pursue an acting career. Instead, Michael and Irit raised Gal to watch how they lived, and like every Israeli over 18, she joined the army.

As did Gal's grandparents, Michael and Irit, joined the army in their prime years. "You can only speak from the prism of your life and what you know," the Hollywood star said, adding that being in the army was in the DNA of an Israeli.

Gal's parents believed in education and wanted their children to finish school before working on their careers, so they were nervous when she decided to leave school to become an actress. Michael and Irit initially thought it was a temporary decision, but things changed when she got an offer to appear in "Fast & Furious," alongside Vin Diesel.

Michael and Irit became supportive parents after watching their daughter succeed in Hollywood. They are now Gal's number-one fans, although they never thought she would become the star she is today.

Gal Gadot's Family History

Gal Gadot has Jewish ancestry. Her Jewish grandfather, Abraham Weiss, was taken to a concentration camp as a teen. Abraham's mother and brother also died in a similar facility. Fortunately, Abraham survived but didn't discuss Auschwitz until his wife died. The actress said:

"I think he realized life has a deadline, and he [needed] to talk about it and the horrific memories."

He has since returned to Auschwitz and shared his experiences with visitors. Gal visited Auschwitz in her teens and felt emotional thinking of her grandfather's experiences. She hopes to one day tell children their family history. She shares three kids, Daniella Varsano, Alma Varsano, and Maya Varsano, with her husband, Jaron Varsano.
