White Clerk Humiliates Black Boy in Store - Dad Finds Son in Tears, Gets "Livid" & Faces Bully: Video
A white employee at Dillard's said a racial slur to a 10-year-old black boy. A video of his father, Muhammad Karim, confronting the old man went viral, and the man's reason for saying a racial slur to the young boy did not sit well with Karim.
An old white man who worked as a clerk at Dillard's in Dallas' North Park Center was overheard saying a racial slur to a 10-year-old black boy. A video of the young boys' father, Muhammad Karim, confronting the man went viral.
In the video, Karim calmly approaches the old man, named Homer, telling him that his son heard him say a racial slur to him. The distraught father wondered what his son could have done to deserve to be racially discriminated against.

The incident reportedly occurred after Karim asked Homer for directions to the dressing room. When he came back, the father found his son in tears. Karim said, "A tear came out my baby's eye, and he said, 'Dad, you didn't hear what that man just called me?'"
Although the dad wanted to know what his son could have done, he did not entirely believe the vague answer the clerk gave him. He also noted that he just wanted to show how much hate there was in the world.

The father and his family live in Johnson County, where they run a small catering business and restaurant, and their visit to Dillard's was meant to be a fun day out. The video of Karim confronting the old man was posted by an Instagram user named Aisha, who claimed to be Karim's cousin.
What Did Karim Say to the Old White Man?
In the video, Karim was calm but direct about how disrespectful and traumatizing Homer's actions were towards his son and his family. The 10-year-old's father approached Homer and said,
"You shouldn't do that. You're too old... I carry myself with honor. I would never disrespect any human being by calling them outside of their name. You don't know the impact of what you've done on my son. But maybe you were unaware."

The old man filmed from behind during the confrontation was seen nodding to what Karim was saying. He reportedly reasoned that he said the racial slur because he had bumped his foot.
However, Karim did not believe that it was normal for anyone to utter a racial slur in such a situation, "Life doesn't work that way. This is repetitive behavior." he expressed.
Although the father appeared calm during his conversation with Homer, he admitted that it took a lot out of him not to be angry and that it was with the help of his faith that he was able to maintain his calmness.

"The Prophet Muhammad says, 'Don't be angry. Don't be angry. Don't be angry," explained Karim, and continued to add, "I'll be honest with you. I was angry. I was livid."
The Lasting Impacts of the Old Man’s Actions
Homer reportedly worked at Dillard's for over 20 years. But after his racist remarks against a 10-year-old boy, he no longer works there.

The Dillard's corporate office released a statement after the video that reached millions of views went around. "The allegations made against our former employee were promptly investigated, found to be in clear violation of our standards, and his employment with Dillard's was immediately terminated." the statement read.
Although the store took appropriate action, the impact of the old man's attack on the 10-year-old boy was severe. Karim revealed that his son was scared to go out because he thought every white person was after him.
As a parent, he was heartbroken to have had to speak to his child about something that should not have happened. That said, he also could not bear seeing the trauma his child was dealing with.

Karim's wife also overheard the man insulting her son and struggled to process the incident. While he dealt with the repercussions of Homer's words in his family, Karim also had to be strong for his family. I'm doing the best that I can to protect them." said the father.
