White Dad Gets Slammed for Cutting His Biracial Daughters' Hair 'Really Short' after Wife's Death
- When a single father cut his daughters' hair short because it had become unmanageable, he didn't know that he would get slammed for it by his sister-in-law.
- He thought he had done the right thing, but most people thought he was at fault for not caring enough for his daughters.
- His sister-in-law blamed him for being inconsiderate because he was white while his girls were biracial. Online users also believed he should have done a better job.
A 35-year-old man found himself in an unexpected situation while trying his best to care for his three daughters and took to Reddit to find answers. He had been looking after his girls, who were 5, 6, and 8 years old, single-handedly after his wife passed away in 2017.
The man managed everything well with his in-laws' help until Covid-19 wreaked havoc worldwide. Before sharing the problem he faced, the father of three revealed that he was White while his late wife was Black.

As a result, their girls were biracial and had inherited their mother's hair. Before the pandemic, the man's sister-in-law always took the girls to salons specializing in Black women's hair, which helped manage their's.

Since the man's sister-in-law helped the girls with hair care, the man never learned how Black women managed their hair. Little did he know that learning about it would save him from getting into trouble later.
What Happened during the Pandemic?
Once the situation worsened because of COVID-19, the man's sister-in-law moved four hours away from their home because she worked as a healthcare professional. "Furthermore, the salons have been periodically closing and reopening, and it is hard for me to get appointments," the man added.

Besides these issues, the father was mostly busy with his office work during the initial months of the pandemic since his role required him to help all employees learn how to work online. As a result, he couldn't pay attention to his girls' hair.
"I was not keeping up with things. I admit," the man wrote in his Reddit post while explaining that two of his daughters' hair became unmanageable to the point that they became matted.
While finding a solution to the problem, the man realized it would be best to cut his daughters' hair because there was nothing else he could do to detangle them. Moreover, he thought his girls wouldn't feel embarrassed with short hair because they weren't attending school then.
"I cut it really short, but it did not look too bad as I was following a youtube video," the man explained.
A few months later, his 8-year-old daughter felt upset while looking at her short hair. She wanted her long hair back but could only wait for it to grow. Everything was going well until the man's sister-in-law returned.
What Happened When the Man's Sister-in-Law Saw the Girls' Short Hair?
One day, the sister-in-law was at his house when she asked his eldest daughter why they had gotten their hair cut so short. The little girl told her aunt it was because their hair became too unmanageable, and their father decided to cut it short.

The sister-in-law felt angry after learning what happened while she was away. The man recounted, "My SIL (sister-in-law) was angry and implied in front of my daughters that because I was White, I couldn't understand them."
The man lost his temper upon hearing this and yelled at the woman because he didn't want his daughters to think their father judged them based on their skin color. He had always raised his voice against racism and didn't want his girls to feel his love depended on their physical appearances.

At the end of his Reddit post, the man shared that he and his sister-in-law had apologized to each other, but she still thought he was at fault for cutting the girls' hair. The man asked other users to tell him if that was true.
Other Reddit users shared their thoughts on the story in the post's comments section. Many blamed the man for not caring for his daughters enough. One Redditor asked, "You could use YouTube to figure out how to cut it, but not how to care for it?"
Another Redditor commented, "Seriously OP, you've had eight years. Four of them on your own. And you couldn't be arsed to figure anything out besides 'make wife, SIL, or a salon handle it' until the pandemic made you?"

A third person said, "He stripped his daughters of part of themselves because he just didn't feel like learning about how to take care of them. He's had years to figure it out and did nothing."

Many Redditors slammed the man in the comments section of his post while siding with his sister-in-law. They believed he could have done a better job at caring for his daughters.
Here is another story about a man who kicked his daughter out after raising her for 19 years because of her DNA. Meanwhile, his family told him to take her back.
