Father Cancels Family Vacation after Learning His Stepdaughters Connived to Exclude His Daughter from the Trip

A man canceled his family vacation after learning his stepdaughters tried to prevent his biological daughter from joining their family on a trip by conniving against her.

A Reddit user shared that he was concerned about whether or not he was wrong for canceling his family vacation after discovering what his stepdaughters had done to ruin the experience for his biological daughter.

The man said that he and his wife, Beth, had been married for five years and that Betty had two daughters, Monica and Leah, who were 25 and 28. Monica and Leah are single moms living with the man and Beth.

The man also had a biological daughter named Jessica, who was 18. He revealed that in the past, Monica and Leah had relied on Jessica to babysit their children often but did not pay her well.

Jessica eventually refused to babysit the children because she received so little from her stepsisters for the service, but Beth convinced her to continue, paying Jessica the deficit so she received a fair amount each time.

While this arrangement worked for the family, one situation made the man rethink his entire family holiday when his stepdaughters assumed that they could rely on their stepsister yet again to care for their children at the expense of Jessica's enjoyment.

What Happened When the Man Planned the Vacation?

The man had planned for him, his wife, and their three daughters to go on vacation together. However, what was meant to be a pleasant experience turned out to be contentious between the stepsisters.

When the man told the family he would be taking them on a three-day vacation, Monica and Leah suggested that Jessica should stay home and take care of their children instead of going with them, as their mother didn't want her grandchildren to go with them.

They reasoned that the children were used to Jessica, which would be better than having someone else come in and take care of them. The women also said Jessica wasn't "fond" of their vacation destination and wasn't keen to go with them too. The man shared:

"They insisted, and Beth offered to pay her double."

The man added that there was "a lot of back and forth" regarding the situation. Eventually, he had to put his foot down and tell his wife and stepdaughters that they were to stop bringing up the idea of Jessica staying home and babysitting.

What Did the Stepdaughters Do That Irked Their Stepfather?

The family had packed their bags and were at the airport, ready to leave for their trip, when Jessica realized she couldn't find her passport. They searched her bags and even went back home to look for her passport there.

As they searched the house for Jessica's passport, Beth, Leah, and Monica insisted that the family return to the airport for fear of missing their flight. They said that Jessica could just stay at home with their children.

Leah and Monica even told the babysitter they had hired that it was okay for her to leave as she was no longer needed now since Jessica couldn't find her passport and would be staying home with their children.

However, the man refused to leave until they found the passport, at which point Monica admitted that she had helped Leah hide Jessica's passport so she would have to stay home with their children.

The man was furious and demanded that Monica tell him where they had put the passport. Monica said that Leah had it, but Leah denied it, which prompted the man to cancel their family vacation altogether. Only then did Leah return the passport. The man admitted to berating his stepdaughters. He shared:

"They stayed upstairs for a while, and Beth refused to speak to me and said that I punished my stepdaughters for worrying about their kids and wanting them to stay with someone they know."

Beth and her daughters told the man that he had overreacted and ruined the trip for everyone. He later updated his post stating that kicking out his stepdaughters was impossible as his wife co-owned their home.

The man felt he might be wrong because he canceled the vacation when his stepdaughters were only worried about their children, and he thought he may have blown everything out of proportion.

However, other Reddit users disagreed. Many said he was well within his rights to cancel the vacation after his daughter was treated terribly, and some even suggested he leave Beth, who didn't seem to care about his daughter's well-being and enjoyment as much as she cared for her own daughters.
