Wife Finds Proof That Her ‘Perfect’ Husband of 50 Years Is a Long-Wanted Criminal – Story of the Day
Rose was cleaning the attic when she found a box hidden under the floorboards. Inside, she discovered an expensive necklace stolen during a gang robbery at a jewelry store where she had worked over 50 years ago. Her heart began to race when she realized her husband of 50 years was one of the robbers.
It was a pleasant Saturday morning as 76-year-old Rose and Jack, her husband of 50 years, finished a hearty chat over a cup of coffee and pancakes. Then, Rose heaved a heavy sigh, staring momentarily at Jack.
She decided to clean the attic but knew Jack would be too lazy to help her. When she still asked him, he proposed hiring cleaning services.
But Rose dismissed the idea because she hated the outrageous prices those workers quoted. So she decided to do it by herself.
Rose climbed into the attic with the vacuum cleaner and got to work. Suddenly, she noticed a wonky wooden plank under her foot. When Rose tried mending it, the floorboard came off. She tried again, only to realize that several more planks were loose.
Curiosity got the best of Rose, and she plucked out the loose planks, only to realize there was a secret stash in her attic...

Rose quickly pulled the box out and inspected the contents. There were a couple of pictures of Jack that Rose hadn't seen before. There was an old, vintage wristwatch that looked expensive.
"Why didn't Jack tell me anything about this?" Rose pondered. Her confusion quickly turned into horror when she lifted a necklace.
"What? Oh my God...this can't be!" Rose exclaimed in shock. She knew her eyes weren't deceiving her. It was the same necklace stolen 50 years ago from a high-end jewelry store she worked in.
Rose was a salesgirl at that time. A gruesome robbery had taken place while she was working her shift. And the stolen necklace, which was now in her hands, was never recovered.
A gang had broken into the jewelry store all those years ago, and Rose was the main witness in the case as she was the only one who had seen the notorious gang leader's face.

However, a horrific car accident just days after the robbery rendered all the criminals dead except one. The cops couldn't trace him.
A weird fear haunted Rose. Though her heart told her otherwise, her mind kept telling her that the 'missing robber' could be Jack—the love of her life she thought was 'perfect' in every aspect.
A chill ran down Rose's spine as she stared at the Burmese ruby necklace. Could Jack be the 'missing robber?' Was there something else he was hiding from her?

With trembling legs, Rose approached Jack, who was seated in the kitchen, enjoying his second cup of black coffee.
He looked up at her and smiled. For a moment, Rose couldn't muster the courage to confront him. How could this amazing man she'd loved be a long-wanted criminal?
But Rose's conscience nudged her to seek the truth. If Jack was the 'missing robber,' he deserved to be behind bars. So Rose battled her emotions and approached him.
"What do you have to say about this, Jack?" she placed the necklace on the table. "Remember this necklace?"
Jack's eyes widened in horror. "Rose...where did you...I...I don't know what you're talking about..." he stammered.
But Rose knew he was lying. "I found it in the stash hidden in our attic. You have only ten minutes to confess everything...the cops are on their way."

"What??" Jack gasped, cupping his mouth in shock.
"It's more shocking for me, Jack. How did this necklace stolen all those years ago end up in our home? Are you going to come clean or...."
Jack leaned back in his chair, looking defeated. "Alright," he sighed. "You're right. It was me. I did steal it all those years ago...but there's something else you still don't know..." he said, recalling the fateful incident.
"Freeze! Weapons on the ground!"
A squad of cops burst into the jewelry store where Rose worked. A wave of relief washed over the employees held hostage at gunpoint by the bandits. But it didn't last long.

Barr, one of the robbers, grabbed Rose, taking her hostage at gunpoint. "Nobody moves...or I'll blow off her head!" he yelled.
"Let my boys go...or she'll die!" Barr declared. "Back off...Now!"
Rose was terrified, and the cops were forced to listen to Barr.
"Grab your things, boys," he said. "Run!"
Barr dragged Rose out of the store as he and his mates headed to their van near the back entrance.
"Help...please! Help!" Rose screamed, but Barr shoved her into the backseat.
"Shut your goddamn mouth...or I'll fire this thing," Barr scraped the gun's cold metal against her temple as the van sped away.

Rose gulped when she peered into the rearview mirror and saw police cars following them. A sliver of hope gushed into her eyes. But to her horror, the van swerved into an alley, and the cops lost track of the robbers' vehicle.
"Hah! Did they really think they could catch us?" one of the bandits scoffed.
With not a single police car in sight, Rose felt helpless. She didn't even know if she would make it out alive. But then, she spotted an opportunity to escape.
Rose leaned closer to the window and noticed the van was approaching the crossroads.
As the vehicle slowed down at the crossing to make a turn, Ross turned to Barr, who was sitting beside her in the backseat, and bit his arm.
He recoiled in pain, and seizing this chance, Rose swung open the door and jumped out of the van. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her.

"Bloody hell...follow her!" Barr yelled. But when he heard the sirens approaching, he ordered his man behind the wheel to outrun the cops.
The van's tires squealed as they wove through the traffic. They sighed with relief when they dodged the cops and made it to the outskirts of town. But their only problem, or rather fear, was that Rose had seen the gang leader's face.
While Barr and the other bandits had their faces covered with masks, Snider, their gang lord, did not. And if his identity were revealed, the entire gang would land in trouble. They couldn't take the risk of leaving Rose alive.

The thugs returned to their meeting place, a run-down garage on the edge of town.
"What do we do now, Boss?" Barr asked Snider. "She's seen your face...what if she rats us out to the cops?"
Snider angrily approached Jack, staring daggers at him. "It's all your fault, you fool! She wouldn't have escaped if you didn't slow down the goddamn van."
"You created this mess...now, you clean it up! Find her...and make sure she doesn't open her mouth again. I want her dead!"
"Got it, Boss!" Jack nodded.
So, for the next few days, he followed Rose after her shift and discovered where she lived. He mapped her complete schedule and found the perfect opportunity to kill her.

On a Friday evening, when Jack was sure Rose would be alone at home, he showed up at her house disguised as an insurance agent.
"Yes?" Rose answered the door.
"Hello, Ma'am...I'm from your insurance firm. I need signatures on some papers," Jack replied.
"Oh...but I didn't get any correspondence from the company," Rose said. "But it's fine...please come in," she added, after spotting what looked like a company ID on him.
"Would you like something? Coffee? Tea?"
"I'd love some tea...thanks!"
When Roses smiled and disappeared into the kitchen, Jack pulled out a poison vial from his bag. It was a particular kind of poison that killed one instantly but couldn't be easily traced in the bloodstream.
"So...can I see the papers I need to sign?" Rose approached with two cups of tea.

"Sure!" Jack said as he laid out the fake documents on the table.
But as Rose sat opposite him and started checking the papers, Jack couldn't bring himself to add the poison to her tea. Instead, his eyes were fixed on Rose.
She was so beautiful...so immaculate that...he fell in love with her at first sight. Jack knew this was stupid, but he couldn't control his feelings.
He slipped the vial into his bag and sat quietly. His heart and mind were in chaos.
"Rose?" he broke the silence, pulling the fake documents closer to him. "Can you tell me more about your job? I mean...there's this form I had to fill out."
"Of course, sure..." Rose then explained a bit more about her background. But as she was talking, Jack was not listening. He was falling harder for her.
He had entirely forgotten that he was there on his Boss Snider's orders and what the consequences of disobeying him would be.

"You're beautiful!" he exclaimed at some point as Rose paused and looked at him. He noticed she was blushing.
"Is there something else you need to know?" she asked him. But Jack rose and stuffed the papers in his bag. He could not stand there anymore. His feelings were growing intense, and he hurried to the door to leave. But Rose stopped him.
"Wait, Jack! My signatures!"
"Oh, yeah...sorry!" Jack turned around and walked over to her. She was so close. He could feel her warm breath against his chest and couldn't hold himself back anymore.
Jack pulled Rose closer and kissed her. To his surprise, she didn't mind. The next moment, they were in the bedroom, making love.
That night, Jack stayed with Rose. It was the most beautiful night of his life. But the thought of not carrying out Snider's orders haunted him.

The following day, Jack met Snider as planned.
"Is she dead?" Snider asked as soon as Jack entered the garage.
"Yes...she won't bother us anymore."
"What about her body?" Snider raised a brow.
Jack's heart raced, and he quickly came up with a lie. "I dumped her body in the swamp, Boss."
But things turned awry when Snider demanded to visit the place where Jack had dumped Rose's body.
"Take me there."

"Boss, I killed her. Don't you trust me?"
Snider looked Jack in the eye. "Boy, I'm the boss around here. You have to obey me...not argue. Get in the van and drive!"
Jack nervously took the wheel. He knew Snider would kill him and Rose if he discovered Jack had lied.
Jack's mind went blank. He didn't know what to do or how he would help himself and Rose. As he kept driving without a destination in mind, an idea struck him.

"What's taking you so long? Where exactly did you dump her body?" Snider grew impatient.
"We...we're almost there, Boss!"
Jack took a sharp turn into the forest road, claiming it was a shortcut to the swamp. Snider believed him.
Jack then slammed the gas pedal and sped up. The van reached its full speed, approaching a giant pine tree ahead.
"Stop! What the hell are you doing...Stop!" Snider and the others shrieked.
In split seconds, the car rammed into the tree. The bonnet swung, and a loud thump shattered the stillness of the woods before everything fell dead silent.
Moments later, Jack opened his eyes and crawled out of the vehicle, unable to believe he had survived the crash. He'd been saved by being strapped to the seat.
Fumes emanated from the engine, and the van was engulfed in flames seconds later, killing all his mates.

Jack limped to the highway and hitchhiked a ride home. The word about the crashed van spread like wildfire, and soon, people forgot about it as time passed.
Jack left the life of crime, got a decent job, and established himself as a 'good' man before proposing to Rose.
He lied to her about quitting his job at the insurance company, and their relationship began with deception. But Jack genuinely loved her. They got married and started a new chapter in their lives.

Present day...
"...And that's what happened," Jack finished. "I hid the necklace in the attic. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to get caught."
Suddenly, the doorbell buzzed. A look of horror flashed across Jack's face as Rose answered the door.
"Hello, Ma'am. You reported you'd identified a robbery suspect?" a police officer asked.
Rose then looked at Jack and then at the officer.
"I'm so sorry, officer. I was sure I'd seen the robber. But I realized I was wrong. Sorry for the trouble. Have a good day!" she said, slamming the door shut.
