However, if there's one thing he was successful in, it was to strain the mom's relationship with their daughter. For years, she tried everything to fix their relationship.
All her efforts went to waste. At one point, her daughter refused to attend therapy with her when she was old enough.

With her daughter's wedding coming up, the woman knew it was a long shot for her to include her stepsister in the wedding party. She expected that at the bare minimum, her stepdaughter should be on the guestlist.
While talking about the wedding, the topic of the woman's stepsister came up. Then, she point-blank told her mother that her stepsister wasn't invited to the ceremony.
The mom explained that if her stepsister wasn't part of the family, neither was her stepdad, half-siblings, and technically, even her.

The woman's daughter explained that she wanted an intimate wedding. The mom knew that'd be a reasonable excuse if only it were true.
"Even friends that she hadn't seen since elementary school are invited but her stepsister is not," the angry mom explained. She knew this wasn't the reason, so she continued to press.

The Woman's Daughter Didn't Think Her Stepsister was Family
Eventually, her daughter told her the truth: she didn't think her stepsister was family. The explanation took the woman aback, and she started to shoot back at her daughter.
The mom explained that if her stepsister wasn't part of the family, neither was her stepdad, half-siblings, and technically, even her. She added that if the wedding was "family only," she had no point in attending either.

The woman's daughter couldn't help but cry. She was so upset at her mom that she walked out on their conversation.
Eventually, she told her relatives what her mom had done, and they slammed the mother for her actions. Wondering whether she was wrong, she took to Reddit to seek opinions online.
Unfortunately, she didn't get the reassurance she wanted to hear. Instead, people on the internet accused her of favoring her second family.
"It´s well within her right to exclude someone she dislikes (and is disliked by). Why do you think it´s reasonable to pressure her into inviting her stepsister with that kind of ultimatum? Why would it even be important to you?" one wrote.
"I agree with this. The relationship isn’t strained because of the ex-husband; it’s strained because mom decided to prioritize her new family. If the girls mutually hate each other, then why should daughter invite someone she hates to her wedding?" another echoed.
"This "mother" is one of the most selfish, unaware, cruel parents I have ever seen on Reddit," someone blatantly said.
Others urged the mom to admit to her daughter that she was wrong. They asked her to apologize for making the wedding about her and attend for the sake of her daughter.
What would you have done if you were in the daughter's shoes? Would you invite your stepsister for your mom's sake or continue with the wedding without them?
