7-Year-Old Boy’s School Uniform Sparks Backlash, Condemning Parents for Allowing Him to Wear Girls’ Clothes
A seven-year-old Scottish schoolboy's unconventional school uniform has raised some eyebrows, but the boy has also been viewed as courageous.
Seven-year-old Theo Easton is a Scottish schoolboy whose unconventional preferences have only made his peers admire him more. Although a male, Theo prefers to wear the female primary school uniform.
Theo is supported by his family and his school. He has only recently made this decision, but it has served him well.
Theo's mom opened up about how this had all come about and what she felt about her son wearing a skirt to school. She hails him for being"brave" in his decision to wear something not most boys would.
Why Does Theo Wear Female Clothes?
Theo's 39-year-old mother, Marion, shared that her son had been wearing both male and female clothes in the comfort of their home since 2022. Depending on his mood, he would decide whether to wear male or female clothing.
Marion confirmed that her son was a typical little boy who liked to play rough and enjoyed his Legos and army games. She clarified:
"He identifies as a boy, but he just doesn't feel comfortable in boys' clothes."
Marion admitted she doesn't know if it will last forever and believes her son, who's only 7, is still experimenting. While he has worn girl's clothes for a year outside of school, he decided at the start of this school year that he wanted to wear them to school, too.
What Happened When Theo Wore A Pinafore to School?
Theo attends Hilltop Primary in Airdrie, where he is in primary three. Before he returned from summer vacation this year, he told his mother he would like to try wearing the girl's uniform to school.
On September 11, his desire was fulfilled when he wore a smock, knee-high socks, a girls' polo shirt, and brogues. He also wore a long black coat with a fur trim on the hood as he posed for photos.
Marion said that Theo's friends have been incredibly supportive of his decision, and when he told them he would be wearing the girls' uniform, they said:
"We'll still love you no matter what you wear, Theo."

Theo's school has also supported his decision to wear the girls' uniform, and Marion has high hopes that it will allow more children to feel free to express themselves in any way they choose.
When Theo returned from his first day in girls' uniform, he told Marion that his teacher had told him she loved his clothes and that he had felt no different when he was on the playground with his friends.
Marion described her son as "inspirational and brave," saying she knew when she saw how happy he was that she had made the right decision, allowing him to wear what pleased him.

While Marion, Theo's friends, and his school have all supported his choices, netizens have been far from kind, especially to Theo's parents. "I made a TikTok about Theo and people were saying 'You're going straight to hell for allowing your son to do this,'" Marion recounted.
It has become even worse now that Theo's story has reached the news. A Facebook post about Theo garnered hateful comments, with many people calling the situation "sick." Marion finds it difficult to believe that people would be so harsh about her son's choices, saying that she is liberal and her son only wants the freedom to be who he is. She clarified:
"It's that straightforward for me. So I'm trying to let it go over my head because I'd rather my son was happy in the skin he's in than for him to develop psychological problems further down the line. I would never forgive myself if my son got to that stage in his life."

Marion says her son is just a happy boy who appreciates the kindness and acceptance he has received. She also thinks the clothes her son wears should not define him as a person and that his is a positive story that people want to hear.
Another TikTok user who has faced backlash about their gender is intersex Lyss, who shared her story about when she found out she was intersex and what it has been like for her to live with it. You can read her full story here.
