A woman's six-year-old daughter didn't go to a traditional school. Instead, her education came in the form of virtual learning. Because of this, her parents hired a nanny for her. Initially, things were going well between the young girl and her nanny.

However, one day, the mom overheard their conversation and was stunned. In their conversation, her daughter had referred to the nanny as her "maid."

Shocked at her daughter's choice of words, the mom went on Reddit to ask for opinions on how she should approach her daughter's attitude. She disapproved of how she spoke to others, and her daughter somehow thought her nanny was beneath her.

"Maid, go get my hairbrush," she had heard her daughter say. Her jaw dropped to the floor, and she immediately intervened, saying no one was allowed to demand things from other people nor talk to other people the way she just did.

The mom also reminded her that her nanny, Miss Lilly, was, in fact, not her maid. She was there to ensure her daughter did her work, and part of that work included getting her hairbrush by herself.

The mother warned her daughter never to hear her speak to someone in that manner again. Another day, the mom overheard her 6-year-old and nanny talking again. What she heard made her blood boil. Her daughter said:

"You're my maid so you're going to do all my schoolwork today."

Again, the mom reprimanded her daughter. She threatened to cancel her daughter's tennis practice for a week if she ever heard her speaking to her nanny the same way again. The mom thought her daughter had finally learned her lesson. However, she was wrong.

"Days go by again and 6yo is showing me stuff on her digital camera and a video pops up...the video she points to the nanny and says 'This is our maid. She does everything for me while I just sit around and eat candy all day!" the mom revealed.

The mom had enough. She grounded her daughter and refused to let her attend tennis practice for a week. While the mom didn't believe this was a fitting punishment, she knew it was the one thing that would make her daughter think about her actions. She loved tennis, and taking it away for a week was hell for her daughter.

However, she knew canceling tennis practice was not enough to teach her daughter good manners. She took to Reddit to share her frustration and ask for opinions.

The concerned mom clarified that the 6yo would say she was joking each time she reprimanded her daughter. The mom didn't think this was a valid excuse — she didn't want her child to talk that way to another person.

"I think next time she calls the nanny a maid or speaks down to her like that she should be made to do a chore, like sweeping the floor or washing the windows — something age-appropriate," one person commented.

The mom agreed. She used sports as a punishment because it was the one thing her daughter was passionate about. She realized that making her do a chore was also appropriate.

Others suggested empowering the nanny was another way to teach the child her lesson. "Tell the nanny you want her to not allow it, it's not acceptable, and you guys are working on it when she goes home, but that you want her to work on it too by correcting, 'No. I am your nanny. I care for you.' Or something similar," one suggested.

The person further remarked that the mother always stepping in when the nanny is working makes it look like the nanny is beneath her. She needed to show that she and the nanny presented a united front when disciplining her daughter.

What would you have done if you were in the mom's shoes? Should she be punished further for how she'd been acting? In a similar story, a dad punished his daughter for disrespecting their helper. He made her sleep in the garage despite begging to let her in the house.
