Wedding Photographers Share 10 ‘They’re Not Gonna Last Long’ Moments That Actually Happened
Professionals in the wedding industry have seen some of the most romantic and strangest stories. With all their experience and knowledge of couples, some have even begun to predict the outcome of relationships.
Many wedding professionals, such as planners, photographers, and others, have witnessed many relationships unfolding, from fairytales to nightmares.
After many years working in the industry, some photographers took to Reddit to share the moments they knew the couples they were capturing for the day would not stand the test of time.

A Reddit user asked all wedding photographers on the platform to share their "they're not [going to] last" moments with other users. The photographers did not hesitate to share their stories with the world. We compiled ten of those stories here.
The Christmas Engagement Ring
One photographer's story was close to home as it was about his best friend. The photographer's friend bought a ring for his girlfriend for Christmas; while everyone else could see it was an engagement ring, she insisted it was a Christmas present, and the man, unwilling to disturb the peace, agreed.

Later, when the man bought her a giant ring, they became engaged and refused for the man to have his choice of best man at his wedding, insisting it should be her best friend's husband. The couple divorced two years after marriage, and the woman had a baby with a man as old as her father.
The No Eye Contact Groom
While one photographer shared two stories about the groom putting down the bride's friends for never having been to Paris, they said their toughest edit was a groom who would not make eye contact with his bride.

The photographer shared many shots of the bride "gazing lovingly" at her groom while he stared 10 yards ahead of him over the bride's head in almost every photo.
The Bride Who Wanted a Golf Cart
This photographer was asked to take pictures of the groom as he first saw the bride on a golf course. The bride's vision was to have her groom approach her in a golf cart to see her for the first time in her dress.

When the groom saw his bride from the top of a hill, he jumped out of the golf cart, ran down to her, and picked her up, telling her how beautiful she looked. The photographer caught the whole thing. But when the groom set the bride down, she turned to the photographer and said:
"Okay, I don't want that. Let's do the golf cart now."

The bride then sent her groom back up the hill to do the scene as she had imagined, despite it being the second look and the photographer having already captured the previous moment.
The Photoshop Disaster
Editing photos is part of the photography process. However, one bride asked a photographer for too much editing. The photographer explained that the wedding had gone well and they were happy with all the photos they had taken.
However, when it was over, the bride called and asked if the photographer could photoshop her to look thinner in all the images, as her husband was concerned about her weight.

The photographer explained that he could only edit some photos, and the others would be left as they were, making the edits all the more noticeable. The bride insisted, and the photographer followed through. However, he later got a phone call from the bride, saying the he had ruined her wedding, and her husband was still upset about her weight.
The Euphemistic Speeches
One photographer did a wedding and photographed the rehearsal dinner the night before. While there was nothing about the couple in particular that bothered the photographer, it was what was being said about the bride that was worrying.

The photographer shared that almost every speech at the rehearsal dinner consisted of the bride's loved ones telling her they were glad she had finally found someone to put up with her attitude.
The Bride Who Treated Her Wedding Like Prom
While many brides are swept up on their wedding day and can scarcely contain their excitement at marrying the loves of their lives, this is not true for every bride. Especially not the one in this instance.

This photographer said that while the groom was besotted with his bride, she treated the entire day like prom and ignored her groom for the most part. The marriage lasted six months.
The Bride Who Was Thrown in a Lake
One person who contributed to the thread was not a wedding photographer but assisted their mother, who was a wedding photographer, on shoots until they were around 19. One wedding she helped at was disastrous.

The person said that halfway through the reception, they heard the groom laughing and saw two groomsmen carrying the bride to the cold lake nearby. They threw her in, and her hair, makeup, and dress were ruined when she came out. That marriage also lasted six months.
The Couples Who Didn't Want to Be Close
A wedding photographer in the industry for five years shared a general story about how they knew when couples weren't going to stand the test of time, and it was almost always accurate.

The photographer said they knew the marriage wouldn't last long when a couple insulted or complained about one another before the photographer and didn't want to hold each other during the photos.
The Groom Who Rationed the Bride
Although cutting the cake at a wedding is one of the most memorable moments, for one couple, it was a way for the groom to control the bride, to the photographer's disgust.

The photographer shared that after the bride and groom had cut the cake at their wedding, the groom told the bride she could not have any cake because she was overweight. The marriage lasted a year, and the groom gained weight when it ended.
The Multiple Red Flags
One photographer shared a few telltale signs that a marriage would not stand the test of time after being in the industry for a few years. One was that the more extravagant the party, the unhappier the couple. Another was one-half of the couple enjoying seeing the other unhappy or smashing cakes in one another's faces.

The photographer shared that another red flag was when couples seemed agitated with each other when taking photos or arguing a lot on the day. Another was people outside the couple being overly involved, which indicated that the person would butt into the marriage often. The photographer then shared:
"I went to one wedding where one spouse secretly invited all their long-term exes to the event without telling the other."

While photographers had to guess the longevity of the marriages they saw, one couple's guests did not wonder how long their marriage would last as the groom asked for a divorce at the reception. Read the full story here.
