Mom-of-4 Called 'Shameless' for Asking People to Donate $40K to Build Her Dream Home
- A single mother created a GoFundMe account asking others to help her build her dream home.
- She claimed building the $40,000 house would ensure her four children would always be safe.
- People slammed her for the audacity to ask others to fund her desires.
Any parent would want a safe home for their children to grow up in. People work hard to provide for their families and one day build them a lovely and comfortable home for good.
One woman, however, felt it would be nice to get help from strangers. An Australian named Kara Hoppo launched a GoFundMe page for others to help her build a permanent home for herself and her four kids. The single mom thought it would be a surefire way to finally get things going for her family.
She Wanted a Stable Home for Her Children
The woman explained that she and her four children needed to move out of their home due to health and safety reasons. She didn't want to pull her children out of school; she wanted to give them stability. Her four sons have made lovely friendships in school, and she would hate to take that away from them.
Luckily for Hoppo, her friend owned a block of land nearby. She hoped her friend would allow them to rent it cheaply or stay for free in exchange for contributing help around the block.
The woman stressed that they were in a sticky financial situation. She was studying to become a full-time qualified energy healer, which would make her financially stable in a year.
Hoppo believed the way out of their difficult situation was by asking for donations. With $40,000, she could purchase two waterproofed demountables and set them up as her family's forever home. She requested:
"I am asking for $40,000 total in donations. Or for min. 400 kind hearted people to be willing to donate $100 worth of their yearly bought coffee budget. Or 2000 with $20 they could spare. Very quickly it can add up."
People Slammed the Woman for Asking for Handouts
While Hoppo had good intentions, some called her "shameless." Even though Hoppo went as far as assuming people would think she was crazy, they didn't receive her GoFundMe page well.
"'This woman has got to be insane,' you think? Hear me out," she wrote. She then explained that $40,000 would buy them two fully waterproofed demountable homes.

One of the demountable homes is self-sufficient, already having its electrical lines and a small kitchen and bathroom inside, as they had previously been used as a temporary home. However, the second would come empty.
So, Hoppo allocated a chunk of the money towards interiors and building a self-sustaining organic garden in their backyard. The donations would give them a permanent home and keep her boys in school.

After listing everything she needed to do to set the demountable up and running, she said living in it would make it easier for her to cut bills and other expenses. Lastly, she explained her decision to be a stay-at-home mom.
Rather than finding a full-time job, she decided to stay at home because she believed in the importance of "nurturing connections" with her children. However, she hopes to turn things around for their family with her energy healing services.

At the end of her post, the woman announced a raffle in which one donor would get free energy healing sessions from her for an entire year. She wished her donors good luck and thanked all those who read through her post.
The woman raised over $7500 out of her $40,000 goal. Under her post, some people made sure to give her a piece of their mind regarding her request. People believed others genuinely needed and deserved help than she did.

Some users urged donors to focus their attention and funds on these people rather than someone asking for an easy way out of her situation, but not everyone agreed.

Some defended the mom, whom they believed was trying her best to give her sons the best life. "She has always helped others whenever possible, including organizing and coordinating donations to feed the homeless at Christmas," one of her relatives shared.
