A Victoria, Australia, family has been left with two fewer members after a fire claimed the lives of their youngest children. Their mother did her best for her children but was unfortunately unable to save them all.

Jasmine Beck is the mother of six-year-old Mavis, four-year-old Isaac, three-year-old Saige, and eighteen-month-old Ashlynn. Sadly, Mavis and Isaac are Beck's only surviving children.

Beck's family and friends have gathered around her and her partner, Kane McGregor, to try and help them grapple with their grief and stay strong for their two surviving children until they recover.

What Happened to the McGregor Children?

The McGregor children, who hail from the town of Corio, were well-known by their neighbors for playing in their cul-de-sac. However, they no longer play in the street like they used to after a tragedy struck their family.

The four children were all together in their garden shed when the couch in the shed caught fire. The minute Beck smelled smoke, she ran out to see what was happening and noticed that her kids were locked in the shed which was ablaze.

Beck moved the couch that was on fire to get to her children and sustained burns to her hands during the process. She pulled her children out and called the fire department, but sadly, her youngest two had already passed away.

Emergency services transported Isaac and Mavis to Royal Children's Hospital, where they remain in critical condition as their family and friends pray for their recovery.

A GoFundMe page confirmed that Mavis and Isaac would need multiple surgeries and had a long way to go before they fully recovered. In a bid to make their hospital room feel like home for their extended stay, Beck put up some pictures on the walls.

What Did the Parents and Family Say?

McGregor has spoken out since the tragedy, saying it has been the worst time in his life and that he is heartbroken at losing his two youngest children. The only thing keeping him strong is knowing he has to be there for his two older children.

The father noted that his children had a long road to recovery and hoped the only way was up from here. The children's aunt and uncle, Anthony McGregor and Sarah Guardino, also talked about what wonderful children the McGregor brood were and how much the family loved one another.

Guardino shared that the family hardly ever went anywhere without each other and even shared that the younger children had become uncooperative when the eldest had to start school.

McGregor's brother shared that Beck has not been handling the tragedy well. He shared that although she is destroyed at having lost her two youngest children, she is trying to be the best mother possible to Mavis and Isaac. However, the loss of Saige and Ashlynn excruciates each family member. McGregor's brother shared:

"They're the babies of our family, the youngest members of our family, and they're gone."

A family friend, Damien Sanderson, said he and other friends were only thinking of ways they could be there for the family by putting together support groups for when the family returns to their home.

Even the family's neighbors are heartbroken by the tragedy. One neighbor shared that they had become so accustomed to the McGregor children playing in the street that they knew to slow down when they rounded the corner as there were always children about.

The GoFundMe page was initially set up with a $15,000 target to help cover Ashlynn and Saige's funeral costs. It was then raised to $30,000 and has far surpassed this goal with $43,240 being raised.

The person who set up the GoFundMe page thanked everyone who donated to the family and said their lives would never be the same without their two youngest children playing with their older siblings.

While Beck received many comments criticizing her and her home, she received many of support, too. Unfortunately, the McGregor children are not the only people whose lives were irrevocably changed by a fire.

This little girl lost her entire family after being brave enough to escape a housefire. Fortunately, she had people around her to support her.
