Cher Explained Why She Would Pick Another Voice If She Had a Choice
- Musical legend Cher revealed that she would pick a different voice if she had a choice.
- In an interview, the star said that though she knows her countless fans adore her voice, she wouldn't have chosen it herself.
- She also shared some words about her relationship with her younger boyfriend and addressed their age gap.
Global musical icon Cher, 77, is revered as one of the most popular and successful artists in the entertainment industry. Throughout her extensive career, she has built a formidable empire and garnered countless esteemed accolades for both music and acting.
When it comes to how she established herself as an unparalleled creative force in show business, Cher's never-give-up-on-anything attitude led her to her phenomenal career. In a recent interview, the iconic singer had the opportunity to discuss success and failure.
After explaining her perspective on success essentially not being a solidified thing, citing the concept as embedded in different moments that build up into something, Cher spoke on the fact that she's experienced a lot of failures in life. When the interviewer asserted that she persevered regardless of the obstacles placed in front of her, Cher mentioned never giving up:
"...I just don't quit...it's the only thing I know..."
She then expanded on her answer by telling a story of how she was initially rejected when trying to get a record deal. Cher stated that her failure to obtain a record deal prompted her to pursue something else: movies.
She started on Broadway and, even then, still faced some challenges. The "Believe" singer mentioned how she had a great run auditioning for Joseph Papp (a late theatrical producer and director) but was not offered anything.
Upon leaving the audition, she walked out to see a memo that said to call another producer and director. One thing led to another, and the producer sent Cher a script to read over.
After going back and forth about the roles she felt she could and couldn't do, the play's director got her to take a chance on herself and stop fussing over her abilities. The story is just one of many anecdotes to show that Cher made it big through dedication, perseverance, and endurance.
Another trait the strong artist is known for is marching to the beat of her drum, even when it comes to her love life. The legendary songstress has been dating a younger man named Alexander Edwards, 37, although at some point, she didn't think the two would last:
"...I kept saying, 'Dude, this is not gonna work out. I'm telling you, it's not gonna go good. It's just not gonna work.' And he just wasn't going for it."
Cher Addressed the Age Gap in Her Relationship and Revealed Why She Would Pick a Different Voice If She Could
Cher was wrong, and Edwards was right about their relationship lasting, and the two are still together despite the controversy surrounding their age difference. Recently, while giving the scoop on her relationship, Cher addressed the age gap between her and Edwards.

Though she confirmed the two are happy, in love, and have a great time together, she did admit that sometimes the age factor comes into play. Of how their age gap affects their relationship, she divulged:
"Sometimes I'm talking to him and he has no idea who I'm talking about...most of my references...He'll look at me and go, 'I wasn't born yet.'"

Nonetheless, the duo remain happy with each other and even share a love of music, which saw Edwards help his girlfriend out with her new "Christmas" album. Edwards assisted Cher with bringing a contemporary feel and vibe to the traditional Christmas albums artists usually do.
When it comes to music, Cher is a force to be reckoned with; her countless achievements and loyal fans stand as testaments to this. However, interestingly, the 77-year-old does not consider herself a Cher fan.
Cher revealed that she isn't particularly fond of her voice, which she says she got from her mom. Concerning this, she admitted:
"...I never liked it very much. I mean, people seem to like it and I'm happy as a clam, but I wouldn't have picked it..."
The star explained that her dislike for her voice stems from the fact that she thinks it sounds neither feminine nor masculine and cited that she thinks it sounds weird.
Although she likes how it sounds on her mom, saying it sounds softer and more appealing, she stated that hers does not allow her to pronounce her Rs and makes sounding out some consonants difficult.
