Doting Dad James Van Der Beek Shares Pics of All 6 of His Kids Donning Impressive Halloween Costumes
James Van Der Beek has played many roles during his career, but one that is most special to him is his role as a father. Recently, he celebrated Halloween with all six of his children.
Van Der Beek has six children with his wife, Kimberly. The pair welcomed their last child into their family in 2021 and felt hugely grateful for his safe arrival after they experienced two later-term pregnancy losses. Now, Van Der Beek is a doting father who celebrates Halloween with his children.
How Did Van Der Beek Celebrate Halloween
As many parents dressed their children up and sent them off trick-or-treating over the past few days, very few dressed up themselves. However, the "Dawson's Creek" alum was the exception.
Van Der Beek posted an Instagram photo in which he, his wife, and all six of their children pose for a photo dressed up for Halloween. Unlike many celeb families, their outfits did not correlate. Each person had a unique costume. Van Der Beek captioned the post saying:
"I believe it's healthy to dress up and play make-believe every once in a while."
He continued by saying that it's still good to practice stepping into another person's shoes occasionally, even if you're not an actor. He ended the post by saying that with everything happening now, he and his family needed a night of fantasy.
Van Der Beek As A Dad
Van Der Beek has often talked about what it means to him to be a father. Of all the roles he has played in his life, it is his favorite. The actor feels that having children changed everything for him.
All Van Der Beek wants to do is protect his kids, make them feel safe, and joyously connect with them. He shared:
"Your life becomes shared, and your joys become shared joys, and in a really beautiful way, that expands your level of circuitry out to other people instead of just keeping it all for your own gratification."
The actor feels that the trick to being a good parent is being completely honest with your children. He believes that children will only think things are awkward if their parents think so, so he tries to be blunt with his kids as often as possible. What a great philosophy!
