Julie is shocked when a news report talking about a plane crash's lone survivor flashes on her TV. The girl bears a striking resemblance to her, leading Julie to uncover a heartbreaking secret.

Julie felt a pang of loneliness as she watched a heartwarming movie about two siblings.

At one point, she pressed the mute button on the remote, got up from the couch, and went to the kitchen, where her mother was preparing dinner.

"Mom," she began. "Can…Can I have a little sibling?"

Her mother turned to look at her. "You're a grown-up girl, honey, and it's not that easy," she said. "It requires…you know, a partner. A mom and dad together bring a baby into the world."

"I didn't have a Dad, and I turned out well, Mom."

"Oh Jules…" Amanda approached her and tucked a strand behind her ear. "That doesn't mean I didn't wish you had a father. I know having siblings sounds great. But it's a serious decision. Can we please leave this topic for now?"

"Sure, Mom."

Julie disappointedly returned to the couch to continue the movie. She was still upset about not having a sibling.

Suddenly, a breaking news report about a plane crash flashed across the TV screen.

Julie's eyes widened in disbelief when a girl's image popped on the screen. The girl, Gloria, was the only survivor, and she looked exactly like her.

"Mom! Mom! You've got to see this!" Julie ran to the kitchen and grabbed Amanda's arm, dragging her to the living room. But right when Amanda darted her eyes to the TV screen, the girl's image vanished, and the movie resumed.

"Mom, you saw her, didn't you? We look so similar! Is it possible she's my sister?"

"There's no sister, Julie!" Amanda replied sharply. "And I didn't see anything! For God's sake, it was just a report!"

"Mom, we need to go to the hospital and confirm it. It can't be just a coincidence!"

"Just stop, Julie!" Amanda snapped. "It's all in your head! We're not going anywhere!"

Amanda angrily disappeared to the kitchen, but from her mother's tone and expression, Julie knew something was off.

She tiptoed into the kitchen and saw Amanda scrolling on her phone. A few seconds later, Amanda buried her face in her palms, tossed the phone on the kitchen counter, and went to the bathroom.

Julie quickly grabbed the phone and unlocked it.

She discovered that her mother had been reading up on a report about the crash. She read the report and saw the name of the hospital where Gloria was taken.

Julie noted the hospital's address and returned to the living room.

After dinner, Julie returned to her room and started packing. She packed a change of clothes and her savings—about $400—from the shoe box under her bed. This money was enough to get her to the city where Gloria was hospitalized.

Julie got dressed and got into bed, covering herself with a blanket up to her neck. When Amanda came in to say good night, she pretended to act normal.

As the door clicked shut with Amanda's departure, Julie sprang into action. She arranged the pillows and tucked them under the blanket, creating a silhouette of her body. Then she grabbed her Barbie doll and placed it under the blanket so that its hair was slipping out. The arrangement on the bed looked like she was sleeping.

Julie grabbed her backpack, and through her bedroom window, she climbed out onto the roof of the first floor. She jumped onto the roof of the neighbor's garage. It was easy to reach. Finally, using the grapevine that grew along the garage's wall, she climbed down.

Julie looked around to ensure nobody was watching her and headed to the highway. Taking a train or bus was out of the question because nobody would sell her a ticket. She was only 14.

Julie tried flagging down a passing vehicle on the highway. An hour passed. Several cars whizzed past, but none stopped. Exhausted, she decided to grab a snack and some water when a farmer's pickup truck pulled up next to her.

The driver rolled down the window. "Hello, kid," he said in a kind voice. "It ain't right for a young'un like you to be hitchhiking out here, especially this late. Want me to drop you off?"

"I…I need to get to the New Blooms Hospital," she said. "It's urgent."

"You're lucky, kiddo. That's exactly where I'm headed. Hop in!" the man, Hank, replied.

Julie was a bit anxious about riding in a strange man's truck. But Hank seemed nice. He asked her why she was alone at that hour, and she explained how she was on her way to find her sister, including how Amanda was trying to hide it from her.

"But it's not safe to roam around like that at this hour, kid," Hank said. "What you did is brave. But aren't you afraid of getting lost?"

"I have some money and a phone," Julie replied. "I should be fine."

They kept talking as Hank drove along the highway. But after a few minutes, he turned from the main road and headed into the woods. Julie panicked, but he told her he was only taking that route because he had a quick errand to run.

Julie tried not to worry, but the situation was such that she couldn't help it. She was just a 14-year-old in an unknown man's car, far from the city, and they were in a dark forest. The truck's headlight was the only source of light.

Julie discreetly tried the door handle, but it didn't budge. Suddenly, the truck stopped.

"You know, it's unsafe for girls like you to hitch a ride. You never know who you may run into," Hank's sharp voice made her turn. His wicked smile set her heart racing.

"Please, let me go," she pleaded.

"Hand over the phone and money!" he ordered.

Julie did as she was instructed. Hank counted the cash and stuffed it in his pocket. The moment he unlocked the car door, Julie ran.

She ran as fast as her legs would carry her. Branches slapped across her face, and twigs snapped under her feet. When she finally stopped to catch her breath, she found herself staring at thickets. She had no idea how to get out of the forest.

Julie tried to recall the path she had taken. She turned around and started on the route from where she had come from. After walking for a few minutes, she heard a car's horn in the distance. Hope ignited within her, relying on the car's horn to find her way to the road.

Following the vehicle's subsequent horn, she kept moving forward and emerged from the forest. She was at a gas station near a village. Adjacent to one of the fuel pumps was an old car.

Julie hid behind a bush, terrified after what she'd experienced with Hank. She saw a man and woman climb out of the car. They stood there talking.

Julie wanted to ask them for help, but she was scared. Then the woman turned around to get back in the car and noticed her.

"Hey, sweetie…" She approached Julie. "Are you alright?

Julie hesitated for a moment, then slowly emerged from the bush.

"Don't worry; I'm not gonna hurt you," the woman said gently.

Something about her assured Julie the woman wasn't like Hank, so Julie told her everything—how she had run away from home to find her sister, how she was robbed by Hank, and how she needed to get to the hospital.

"We're sorry for what you went through," said the man. "How can we help you? I'm Leo, and that's my wife, Catherine."

"Can you take me to the hospital, please? I need to see my sister!"

The couple agreed to help, and Julie got into their car. Just a few more minutes, and she'd find Gloria, she thought. But Julie's hopes were shattered when the car stopped outside a police station a few minutes later.

Leo beckoned to a cop after lowering his window. "This girl ran away from home and claims she was robbed," he told the cop.

"I'm sorry, honey. But this is the best for you," Catherine told Julie. "Your mother must be beside herself looking for you."

"Please, don't do this! I need to find my sister!" Julie cried as she was taken to the police station. But all her pleas fell on deaf ears.

She was led to a room where she was made to sit across from an officer. He told her that Amanda was informed and that she was coming to pick her up soon. Julie refused to talk, a plan brewing in her mind.

The cop's phone rang, distracting him. He stepped away to answer the call, his back facing her. Julie pressed the fresh scratch on her arm, releasing a trickle of blood. She smeared it across her face and fell on the cold tile of the floor, clutching her stomach and writhing in 'pain.'

"My stomach…it hurts!" she cried.

Julie was taken to New Bloom's Hospital because it was the nearest.

"Where does it hurt?" the doctor examining her asked.

"It-it doesn't hurt anymore," she replied.

The doctor was perplexed and ordered additional tests. When he left the room, Julie got out of bed and peered out of her room. The path was clear.

She walked through the corridor, peeking into rooms through their oval-shaped glass windows, and finally…there was Gloria, surrounded by tubes but conscious.

Julie struggled to speak as she approached Gloria's bed. Suddenly, the door behind her burst open, and Amanda entered.

"Julie!" Amanda dashed to her and hugged her.

"Mom, look, I told you it wasn't a coincidence!" Julie said, pointing to Gloria's bed, and noticed tears in her mother's eyes.

"I know…" said Amanda, lowering her head. After a few seconds of silence, she continued, "Gloria is your sister, honey…"

Turns out, 15 years ago, Amanda divorced her husband because they'd grown distant. After signing the divorce papers, she learned she was pregnant. She didn't tell her husband about her pregnancy because she was scared she'd lose her children—her twin babies.

Eight months later, she went into labor and gave birth. Her heart was crushed when she was told one of her twins had died shortly after birth. It was only later that she discovered her husband had learned about the pregnancy and bribed a doctor to hand over one of the twins to him.

When she learned everything, she decided to confront him. But he threatened to kill her if she went to court or the police. Amanda was scared. Thinking she at least had one child with her, she decided to let go of her other daughter.

"Your father died in the plane crash," Amanda finished. "So Gloria is free from him now…We'll be fine now, girls," she added, looking at Gloria, who was crying.

"I'm glad I'm not alone," Gloria said. "But I don't have enough time…I need an urgent kidney transplant."

It seemed like fate had decided to test Amanda yet again. Julie offered to donate. They were twins. Perfect match.

A week later…

As the doctor walked out of the OR, Amanda dashed to him. "How are my girls? Answer me, doctor!"

"They are fine, ma'am. The transplant was successful."

Amanda sank onto a chair in relief and cried. The risk and bad times were over. Her daughters would return home with her. She had dreamed of this day for years. Finally, her babies would be home.
