Another Taylor Swift Fan Reported Dead at 25 in Brazil before her Sunday Concert
Taylor Swift's Rio de Janeiro concerts saw a string of tragedies despite the tour's success. Two fans died, one of whom didn't even make it to the show.
Taylor Swift's Brazil leg is in full swing. She kicked things off in Rio de Janeiro on November 17 before she postponed the November 18 concert due to record-breaking heat.
After the weather seemed to improve, Swift continued her November 19 concert as scheduled. The Saturday show is set to continue on Monday.
On Sunday, ahead of the Sunday show, Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, 25, was killed after an attempted robbery by three men at three in the morning. Santos was in Copacabana during the time of the incident and never made it to the concert.
While Santos did not try to fight the robbers, one of the suspects stabbed him. Two suspects ultimately admitted to the crime, and one remains at large.
After the November 17 concert, a young 23-year-old fan named Ana Clara Benevides died of cardiac arrest after temperatures reached 100 degrees. Benevides was a psychology student and had traveled 880 miles to be at the concert.
Her family rushed to Rio de Janeiro to transport her body back to their hometown. "She left home to fulfill a dream and came back dead," Benevides' grieving father said.
It was a heartbreaking start to Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour Brazil leg, which is scheduled to continue in Sao Paulo after her Rio de Janiero shows. After Brazil, the tour resumes in 2024, where she's set to travel to Asia, Australia, Europe, and all around North America.
