Woman Refuses Dishes Her Mother-in-Law Wanted to Cook for Her on Thanksgiving Day, Comes with Her Own

A vegan woman demanded that her mother-in-law change the Thanksgiving dinner menu to cater to her diet. However, she did not want mere options but also entree changes. What happened during the Thanksgiving celebration caused their family to argue.

Working parents face numerous challenges, especially with toddlers still needing supervision during the day. Fortunately, a young couple had the help of the man's parents to babysit their children, ages three and four.

However, their set-up was ruined by a falling out between the wife and her mother-in-law during Thanksgiving dinner. The latter took to Reddit to retell what had happened during the evening and sought advice from the online community regarding her actions.

According to the woman, she and her daughter-in-law have not been on the best of terms. She described the 21-year-old as "one of those condescending people" who "constantly looks down on others," primarily due to her preference to become vegan.

The daughter-in-law took her veganism seriously and often looked for vegan alternatives during family occasions; Thanksgiving was no different.

Demanding for Vegan Food

As the woman shared, her son's wife reached out to her on social media to ask for the Thanksgiving menu. She also included a list of vegan recipes that consisted of pricey ingredients.

Instead of accepting the vegan replications, the Original Poster(OP) told her daughter-in-law that she had prepared vegan options for her and her family, including an entree, side dishes, and dessert.

While these were good options, the daughter-in-law disapproved of the entrees and asked for them to be vegan. The woman wrote:

"It wasn't a request to make something in particular; it was a demand that I redo everything."

Annoyed, the woman told her daughter-in-law that the menu was final, but she was welcome to add to the dishes for the evening.

Bringing Her Own Dishes to the Party

True enough, the daughter-in-law arrived at the Thanksgiving celebration with the exact dishes her mother-in-law prepared but made with vegan ingredients. "They arrive late with a ton of food dishes, parading them in, all with this vindictive grin on her face," she said. The other family members who tried the vegan options liked it.

However, every time someone would tell the daughter-in-law about the delicious dish, she would look at her mother-in-law in a certain way. She would also comment about wanting to bring food that everyone could enjoy.

When it was time for dessert, everyone at the table shared something they were grateful for. Often, the family members would mention the gift of family and being with each other. However, when it came to the daughter-in-law, she had a vindictive attitude and said:

"I'm thankful for starting the new tradition of a cruelty free, including Thanksgiving, and I hope it continues next year![sic]"

It was at that moment that the mother-in-law decided it was enough. When it was finally her turn to speak, she said she was thankful that it was the last Thanksgiving she would have to spend with her daughter-in-law. At that point, the bickering began until the mother-in-law kicked her daughter-in-law out of the house.

Refusing to Apologize

The woman's son messaged his mother soon after, demanding that she apologize to his wife. Until then, his children wouldn't be able to see their grandmother.

According to her son, although she understood his mother, he claimed his wife did not mean to do anything wrong, yet she was embarrassed in front of everyone. To make matters worse, the woman's husband also believed that his wife should apologize for her rude actions.

Fortunately, the woman's husband eventually understood her side and supported her decision to stop communicating with her son and his family. She said:

"I am done with their free labor. I am done being her punching bag and power step. I am done just all around."

The woman also called out her son for enabling his wife to act in such a way. This time, the mother-in-law demanded that her daughter-in-law and son apologize. Until then, they wouldn't get the free labor of babysitting the kids.

Several Reddit users sided with the woman and called out the daughter-in-law for being disrespectful as a guest. Others also mentioned that the woman's son should have done something to stop his wife from treating his family poorly.

The daughter-in-law later posted her version of the story, which was a bit different from her mother-in-law's account. The latter also left out some details.
