According to police records, a Massachusetts woman, Roxanne Doucette, 64, is under investigation for suspicion of attempted murder using poison. The alleged victim is her husband, with her 40-year-old daughter listed as a witness, as detailed in a Townsend police incident report.

While not yet charged, Doucette's involvement in the poisoning allegations unfolds in police and court documents, which reveal that she communicated online with an individual impersonating Thorsten Kaye, a star from "The Bold and the Beautiful" soap opera.

The Baffling Sequence of Events

On December 1, 2023, the online impersonator, posing as "Kaye," urged the woman to take drastic action: "You have to get rid of your husband honey. I need you so much," as documented in court records.

After expressing the need for contemplation, as reported in the filings, Doucette, at 2:34 p.m., allegedly messaged the online profile, declaring her intention to prepare a remarkable soup which she called a "special potion" for her husband's return.

After about two hours, she purportedly sent another message insinuating a sinister motive: "Hubby got back not feeling well. Maybe I can collect life insurance." The online impersonator, identified as "Kaye," reportedly responded, asking for a timeline, to which Doucette was said to have replied, "Don't know."

Shortly after 5 p.m. that day, Doucette allegedly made a distress call to 911 for her 73-year-old husband, who, as per the report, was unresponsive but breathing. Notably, the report mentioned his cardiac history. Emergency services promptly transported him to Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer.

What Did Roxanne Doucette's Daughter Do?

While at the hospital, Doucette's daughter reportedly grew suspicious of her mother's actions. Allegedly, she contacted Ayer police, expressing her belief that her mother had poisoned her father and engaged in deceptive conversations with a fraudulent soap opera profile user who purportedly swindled her out of money.

Sorting through her mother's phone messages, the daughter discovered incriminating evidence about the alleged soup. Upon her father's recovery, the daughter reportedly questioned him about the events of December 1. As detailed in court documents, his response indicated that Doucette had prepared soup for him, but it tasted bitter and was not enjoyable.

Subsequently, the hospital conducted a toxicology test, reportedly yielding negative results. However, the daughter conveyed to officers that the test appeared limited, focusing solely on opioids, cocaine, and alcohol, omitting examination for other potentially harmful substances.

What Did Doucette Say in Her Defense?

Upon police engagement, court documents indicated that Doucette had allegedly adopted an aggressive demeanor. Purportedly believing she was conversing with a celebrity, she claimed to have wired approximately $4,000 to the imposter, expressing a long-standing desire to meet a star, according to the filings.

In contrast, she vehemently denied any intent to harm her husband, professing her deep love for him: "I absolutely did not poison him whatsoever." The woman said the only thing she was guilty of was falling for a scam. "I want my marriage back. I want my husband back," added a teary-eyed Doucette.

When informed of the impending seizure of her phone and tablet for scrutiny of messages with "Kaye," court records stated that Doucette adamantly refused, persisting even after warnings of potential arrest. In the ensuing attempt at custody, she reportedly resisted arrest and kicked one officer in the groin with her boot.

Eventually, subdued and handcuffed by two officers, Doucette's electronic devices were seized. Ayer police subsequently arrested her on charges of intimidating a police officer, resisting arrest, and assaulting and beating a police officer.

Despite the charges related to the altercation with law enforcement, Doucette has not faced legal repercussions connected to the alleged poisoning. As per court documents, Doucette faced arraignment on December 4, 2023, and was subsequently released under the condition of maintaining no contact with either her daughter or her husband.

The court ordered her to undergo a mental health evaluation and follow-up treatment and to be confined to a home with GPS monitoring. Although she denied the alleged poisoning in a statement, professing her enduring love for her husband of 45 years, her spouse filed for a restraining order, which was granted on December 4.

Doucette expressed her sentiments to her husband and pleaded, "I just want him to come home. I just love him so much." Meanwhile, in collaboration with the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, law enforcement is reportedly investigating whether additional charges will be brought forth.

The Online Reaction

The Townsend woman's mind-boggling story has amassed sheer criticism online. "Her eyes [were] twitching..," wrote one commenter. "I feel like the cops are keeping any info secret in case this woman flees the country for the scammer," expressed a second user.

"She desperately needs acting lessons from that fake actor. That was a pathetic performance. One out of five stars. Not worth seeing," quipped yet another netizen.
