According to the teenager's mom, her daughter, who is non-binary, and has been unemployed since Thanksgiving in 2023, as she quit her last job during the Black Friday period. After leaving this job, the teenager went through four to five jobs in 2024, quitting them all, while claiming that these work environments discriminated against her based on her identity.

The mom was on the verge of giving her daughter an ultimatum when she came to her with news that shocked her. As per the teenager's mom, she wanted to tell her daughter to go to school full-time the upcoming semester, get a full-time job, or move out and live with her friends.
