Chrissy Teigen recently shared a poignant update on her and John Legend's family, revealing that their six-year-old son has received a life-changing diagnosis that will shape their journey ahead.

Chrissy Teigen recently announced on Instagram that she and singer John Legend's son, Miles Legend, have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. She revealed this after fans noticed a health monitor on Miles' arm in a photo from the Paris Olympics, where the family was supporting Team USA.

In her post, Chrissy explained her son's situation. "A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago," she wrote, referring to the monitor on Miles' arm.

She added, "You noticed his type -1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community already [sic]."

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, causing sugar to build up in the blood. It's typically diagnosed in young people but can occur at any age. The exact cause is unknown, and insulin treatment is necessary.

Continuing her explanation, Chrissy shared that Miles, who just turned 6 last May, was hospitalized "a couple of weeks ago" with a severe case of shigella, an intestinal infection. During his treatment, doctors discovered issues with his blood tests, which led to the diabetes diagnosis.

She noted, "I've learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with Type 1 — going to the hospital for something completely different."

The cookbook author also shared that after further medical testing, they discovered Miles is currently in the "honeymoon period" of managing Type 1 diabetes, which is a temporary phase of improved control.

Shortly after her son's hospitalization, Chrissy spoke about how the family was adjusting to Miles's condition. "Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly," she said.

Chrissy also included a touching excerpt from the book "Year One with Type One," which they read to Miles to help him understand his condition.
