His journey to UNLV came after a challenging period of recovery, as he previously battled a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while at Kentucky. In August 2023, he shared his setback on Instagram, expressing his determination to return stronger.

"It's only up from here, you just gotta wait…I never thought I would have to make a post like this, but I believe everything happens for a reason. Just a couple weeks ago, my season was sadly cut short as I had suffered a torn ACL. I will be back and better from this," his caption read.

Along with his message, Christman posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed, wearing a gown with medical wires attached. His right leg was secured in a large black brace, indicating a recent surgery. Despite the setting, he appeared in good spirits, smiling and making a hand gesture.
