Tina Turner’s Late Son Ike Jr. Cut Ties with His Mother in 2000
Seven years before his death, Ike Turner Jr. — son of music icons Tina and Ike Turner Sr. — spoke candidly about a family fractured by pain, distance, and unresolved wounds from the past.
In a haunting interview with The Mail Sunday, Ike Turner Jr. revealed that he had not spoken to his mother, Tina Turner, in nearly two decades.

"I haven't talked to my mother since God knows when – probably around 2000," he admitted in the 2018 interview, adding that he believed none of his brothers — Michael Turner, Craig Turner, and Ronald "Ronnie" Turner — had either.
He further explained that his mother had moved on with her life, remarried, and settled in Europe, choosing to distance herself entirely from the painful memories of the past.

Ike Jr. Revealed His Lingering Regret
Despite understanding her need for peace, Ike Jr. expressed a lingering sorrow — and perhaps even regret — that Tina never reconciled with his father, Ike Sr., before his death from a cocaine overdose in 2007.
"I think it's real [sic] late," he reflected, referring to their long-estranged relationship. His remarks offered a rare and emotional glimpse into the personal fallout of a marriage that made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The pain etched in his words hinted at the lifelong emotional toll endured by a child caught between two legends.

Tina's Survival: 'I Didn't Exist... I Was Already Dead'
Tina, for her part, had never shied away from the truth of her harrowing past. In a powerful 1981 interview with People, she laid bare the anguish and violence that defined her years with Ike Sr., saying:
"I was living a life of death. I didn't exist. I didn't fear him killing me when I left, because I was already dead. When I walked out, I didn't look back."
She recounted living under Ike Sr.'s complete control, saying he managed everything — from the band and finances to her daily routine — while she was expected to perform domestic duties, such as cooking breakfast for the band at dawn.

She found solace in Buddhism, but her newfound faith only fueled Ike Sr.'s anger, as he resented anything that seemed to empower her. Even when she acknowledged moments of affection, Tina made it clear that love came with conditions.
Ike Jr.'s Brutal Childhood
While Ike Jr. avoided fully confronting his father's reputation for abuse, his own memories painted a disturbing picture. "My mother and father had no more fights than the people next door to you. I think their problem was her mouth and his mouth – my father didn't take [expletive] from nobody," he recalled.

Yet he didn't shy away from sharing his own trauma. He disclosed:
"When my mother and father separated, he did not want me working with her – and he beat me in the head with a nickel-plated .45 pistol."
He further reflected on a turbulent childhood marked by long stretches without his parents, constant touring, and adult responsibilities from a young age. Pulled out of school at 13, he managed his father's recording studio, joined them on the road, and handled their tour earnings — work that left him physically and emotionally drained.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my cousin, Ike Turner, Jr.," Jacqueline said. "Junior was more than a cousin to me, but rather a brother, as we grew up in the same famed household together," adding that the family is grateful for the outpouring of support and is requesting privacy at this time.
Ike Turner Jr., born in 1958 to Ike Sr. and Lorraine Taylor, was adopted by Tina. Like her son, the legendary Tina died in May 2023 at age 83 after suffering from multiple health issues, including cancer, a stroke, and kidney failure.
