'RHOSLC' Alum Mary Cosby Shared Final Photo of Her 23-Year-Old Son, Robert Jr., Weeks Before His Passing
What seemed like an ordinary, loving post at the time now carries a haunting stillness that's impossible to ignore, as just weeks after it was shared, police were dispatched to the reality TV star's Salt Lake City residence…
A devastating turn of events has left one "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" ("RHOSLC") star grappling with an unimaginable loss, as troubling new details continue to surface.
Authorities responded to a call at reality TV Star Mary Cosby's home involving her son, a moment that would soon take on far greater weight amid mounting legal issues and a recently finalized divorce.

According to TMZ, the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) responded Monday night, February 23, 2026, to a report of a "full arrest/medical emergency" concerning Mary's son, Robert Cosby Jr.
Authorities say the situation evolved into a death investigation after officers arrived, with a possible overdose noted in the initial response. Firefighters and paramedics were also dispatched. Officials have not confirmed an official cause of death.
In a statement shared with the outlet, Mary and her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., said their "beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord," adding that despite their heartbreak, they find comfort in faith and in believing "he is finally at peace."
But what happened inside the home that night adds another heartbreaking layer to the story.
What Details Were Discovered from the 911 Call
According to People, SLCPD dispatch audio revealed authorities were called to Mary's Utah home just before 6 p.m. local time Monday. In the 911 call recording, a dispatcher can be heard describing a "23-year-old male" who was "not conscious" and "not breathing."
The audio further indicated that one dose of Narcan — an over-the-counter nasal spray used to reverse opioid overdoses — was administered at the scene. Three police units were dispatched to the residence, based on the recording.
A Quiet Post That Now Feels Different
Weeks before the devastating news, Robert Jr.'s mother shared an Instagram post on February 8, 2026, featuring her 23-year-old son. The post — which would become the final photo she shared of him before his passing — has since left fans emotional.
In the image, Robert Jr. stands outdoors at dusk, a glowing cityscape twinkling behind him. He's dressed in dark clothing with a tan knit beanie, his hands folded calmly in front of him as he gazes directly at the camera with a composed, almost reflective expression.
There's something striking about the peacefulness of the moment. Against the soft blue evening sky and distant lights, Robert Jr. appears steady and grounded; a quiet snapshot that now feels profoundly symbolic.
Mary captioned the post with heartfelt devotion, penning, "#godfirst Love you all🙏❤️ My Beautiful Son.. I love him sm❤️🙏." The words, simple yet powerful, read like a mother's public embrace, one filled with pride, faith, and unwavering love.
A Time Marked by Turbulence Behind the Scenes
Robert Jr.'s passing comes after a turbulent time marked by legal battles and deeply personal struggles. According to Page Six, he had publicly struggled with drug and alcohol addiction.
On November 9, 2025, Robert Jr. was arrested after going to the family home of his former wife, Alexiana Smokoff, and violating a pretrial protective order. The arrest came amid escalating tensions following the unraveling of his marriage.
On November 25, 2025 — just one day after his wife filed for divorce — Robert Jr. pleaded guilty to eight of the 14 charges he was facing.
These class A misdemeanors included one count of felony property damage or destruction greater than or equal to $5,000, two counts of violation of a pretrial protective order, one count of assault on a peace officer, one count of violation of a jail release court order, two counts of criminal trespass on a dwelling with intent to cause annoyance, injury or fear, and one count of class B misdemeanor assault.
The remaining six misdemeanor charges were dismissed with prejudice. His attorney, Clayton Simms, told the outlet that Robert Jr.'s legal troubles stemmed from difficulty "understanding and recognizing" that his marriage was over.
Robert Jr., Clayton explained, viewed marriage as "sacred and forever," modeled after his parents' 27-year union.
"Robert has accepted responsibility for his mistakes and has pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors," Clayton added.
Prior to that November arrest, Robert Jr. had been arrested in September 2025 after allegedly attempting to break into Alexiana's family home through a dog door, attacking her father on the front lawn, and biting a responding officer's hand, which ultimately led to a taser being used to subdue him.
Years earlier, in 2022, he was arrested for driving under the influence and later pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation, 75 hours of community service, and required to complete substance abuse and anger management classes. He was released from prison in early February 2026.
After serving time in jail, Clayton stated that Robert Jr. viewed this experience as "a blessing."
"It allowed him to sober up and start thinking clearly. He's looking forward to doing positive things. The difficulty is that he was slow to recognize the dissolution of his marriage. But now he understands the relationship is over, and he's moving forward," Clayton said.
A Marriage That Reached Its Breaking Point
Robert Jr.'s ex-wife, Alexiana, officially filed for divorce on November 24, 2025, in Salt Lake County District Court, according to People.
The petition required that both parties not "harass, intimidate or disturb the peace of the other party, by any means, including electronically." It also prohibited domestic violence or abuse, interfering with services, canceling insurance policies, or using the other party's likeness or identification for financial purposes.
The filing came shortly after Robert Jr.'s arrest for allegedly violating the pretrial protective order. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail and remained incarcerated at the time.
In an exclusive statement to the outlet, Clayton said, "Today Robert Cosby took responsibility for the mistakes he has made and the pain he has caused his ex-wife and her family." The attorney added, "He continued to make contact with his ex-wife in an effort to reconcile."
A Mother's Words That Hit Harder Now
Mary herself spoke candidly to People about her son's arrest. "It was for his good," she said. "I think he needed that. He's never encountered anything like that. He's never been through anything like that. I don't mind it. It hurt me at the time. I was devastated, I was worried, I was scared."

"But some things happen for a reason to show you the path you're on. I feel like he needed that and that he understands that that's the wrong journey," she added.
Robert Jr. had also expressed hope for his future. He shared that he was taking his journey "day by day," adding that, while he was not where he wanted to be, he was not where he once was. "I will get there!" he declared.

Now, Mary's final February photo of her son feels especially poignant. In that still moment — city lights behind him, hands folded, eyes forward — Robert Jr. looked steady, calm, and full of quiet resolve. For fans revisiting the image, it may be impossible not to search his expression for signs of the hopeful future he once spoke about.
The caption also echoes louder now: "My Beautiful Son.. I love him sm❤️🙏." A mother's love, frozen in time, and a final image that carries far more meaning than anyone could have known.
At this time, we wish to extend our most heartfelt condolences to Mary Cosby, Robert Sr., their entire family, community, loved ones, friends, and all who knew and loved Robert Jr. as they mourn such a significant loss. We hope for their healing amid their time of grief. RIP, dear Robert Jr.
