Debbie Rush Shares the Tragic Loss of Her Son Just Days Before Christmas

In a moving statement, the former "Coronation Street" star described the family's grief as "unimaginable" and spoke of her son's final selfless act.

Just days before Christmas, "Coronation Street" actress Debbie Rush revealed the devastating loss of her son, William Rush, who died on December 17, 2025, aged 31.

In an emotional Instagram post shared on December 18, Debbie described her family as "completely broken" and struggling through "unimaginable grief." While announcing the tragedy, she wrote that there were "no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss."

She also shared that William, even in death, had given "the most precious gift of all" by becoming an organ donor — a final act of selflessness that she said gave "hope and life to other families." While asking for privacy as the family navigates their grief, the actress added:

"His kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy."

Debbie, who portrayed Anna Windass in "Coronation Street" from 2008 to 2018, shares three children William, Poppy, and Tom Rush — with her husband, Andrew Rush, whom she married in 1989.

William, who was born into a family of performers, had a long-running career in television from a young age. He first rose to prominence playing Josh Stevenson in "Waterloo Road," the son of English teacher Tom Clarkson.

At the time of writing, William's cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.

He appeared in 70 episodes between 2009 and 2013, becoming a familiar face to British audiences. Earlier roles included Ali Duncan in "Grange Hill" as well as appearances in "Vera," "Casualty," and "Shameless."

In 2014, William followed in his mother's footsteps with a guest appearance in "Coronation Street." Two years later, he returned to the spotlight on "The X Factor," performing Zara Larsson's "Lush Life" and progressing to the third of four elimination stages.

His passion for acting began at Bamford Academy, where he played the Artful Dodger in a school production of "Oliver." He later credited his headteacher, Cherie Rivero, with inspiring his decision to pursue acting professionally.

William trained at the Manchester School of Acting before securing his earliest on-screen roles. Beyond his professional achievements, he was remembered for his warmth and kindness, qualities reflected in the many tributes shared online.

One person commented, "He came into the coffee shop I used to work in years ago when he was labouring and I recognised him straight away. He was very lovely about it and kind. So sorry for your loss xxx."

Others focused on his talent and impact. "I'm so sorry for your loss i absolutely loved William in Waterloo road he was such a good actor, I can't imagine how you feeling I have children myself thinking of you and your family 💔😢x [sic"], one person wrote.

Another shared, "So so sorry to read this, what a fabulous son and fine actor. Gone too soon. Sending love, there can be no greater pain. Xx [sic]." Another netizen added, "Terrible to read that Debbie. Devastating news. thinking of you all xxx [sic'."

Reflecting the scale of the loss, one comment read, "No pain that I can imagine is worse than.losing a child , ever . So heartbreaking. 💙 [sic]." At the time of writing, William's cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.
