On X, Usha shared that she and the Vice President are expecting their fourth child, a boy, due in late July. The couple, who met at Yale Law School and married in 2014, are already parents to three children: Ewan, 8; Vivek, 5; and Mirabel, 4.

The announcement quickly gained attention online. On the same platform, someone commented, "The baby will grow in the White House until his 10th birthday, as JD will serve as the 48th POTUS 🤠."

Another supporter posted, "Yay! It's been so long since we had a new baby in the White HouseCongratulations! This is good for the country."

On Instagram, reactions were more mixed. "Uuugh Erika will be heart broken!!" another person wrote. A second said, "That's 1[sic] way to avoid the divorce rumors 🤔."

Why It Matters

While the post was personal, it also touched on a rarely seen moment in modern political life. It is uncommon for the spouse of a sitting vice president or president to give birth during a term in office.

One of the few precedents came in 1960, when Jackie Kennedy gave birth to John F. Kennedy Jr. shortly after her husband won the election but before his inauguration. During his presidency, she gave birth again in 1963 to Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, who died two days later from a respiratory condition.

Only one child has ever been born inside the White House. In 1893, First Lady Frances Cleveland delivered Esther Cleveland during her husband's second term. Esther remains the only child born in the executive residence.

With a due date set for midsummer, the Vances' upcoming addition brings a rarely seen dynamic to a sitting vice president's tenure. The announcement adds a personal footnote to the broader narrative of American public life.
