He stepped out of his parents' shadow with a screen debut that turned heads — and now James Wilkie Broderick is turning them again, for an entirely different reason.

James, 23, is the only son of two of Hollywood's most recognized names. He made his screen debut alongside his father on "Elsbeth" in early 2025 and has been stepping further into the public eye since.

His latest photo drop is the most striking move yet — and the comments section had one thing on its mind. He has the credits, the famous last name, and now, apparently, the looks to match. But it is who he resembles that sent fans into a frenzy this week.

Born Into It

James Wilkie Broderick was born on October 28, 2002, in Manhattan, New York City, the first and only son of his parents, who also share twin daughters Marion Loretta and Tabitha Hodge.

He grew up in Greenwich Village, the same downtown Manhattan neighborhood his family called home, and spent much of his childhood in the background of his parents' very public lives.

The early years are well-documented in paparazzi snapshots: a newborn in 2002, a toddler in tow through the Village in 2005, school runs in 2006, and weekend outings with his mother in 2007.

By 2009 and 2011, the full family was appearing together more regularly. By 2017, James was a teenager photographed with both parents and his younger sisters and still very much part of the family frame, but not yet the subject of his own.

That began to shift as James moved into adulthood. He accumulated screen credits that would stand on their own regardless of his last name — including roles in "Days Ending in Y," "Lady in the Lake," and "Elsbeth.".

It was the "Elsbeth" appearance that drew the most attention, and for good reason: it marked the first time James and his father worked together on screen.

Matthew made no effort to hide how he felt about the experience. "I was so proud and happy to work with my son James," Matthew told People. "Working with everyone on Elsbeth was a pleasure, and I'm excited for the episode to come out."

James matched his father's enthusiasm. "What a thrill it was to work side by side with my dad, who also happens to be my favorite actor!" he said. "The whole experience of working on Elsbeth was beyond exciting, and I am very grateful to the producers for giving me this opportunity!"

By 2024 and 2025, his social media presence was growing steadily alongside his professional one, each post a little more self-assured than the last.

A New Photo Series Gets People Talking

The latest Instagram photo series is what sparked the current wave of attention. Shot in editorial style, the set mixes color and black-and-white portraits that show James in full, confident, artistic, and unmistakably grown.

In several images, he stands indoors in front of a decorative fireplace and framed floral wall art, wearing a fitted white graphic T-shirt with a boxing-themed print and paint-splattered white painter pants. He poses with his hands clasped behind his head in one frame, arms folded in another, looking every bit at ease in front of the lens.

The outdoor shots are set against a brick wall, where he alternates between a black tank top that shows off a noticeably built physique and a distressed work-style jacket layered over the same paint-marked trousers. A series of black-and-white portraits captures him seated by a window in an oversized crewneck.

The hair — medium-length, wavy, light brown, falling loosely around his ears and neck — gives the whole series a soft, unhurried quality. It is the kind of shoot that announces something: this is not a celebrity kid anymore.

Fans All Noticed the Same Thing

Fans did not waste a second. The comments section of the post quickly filled with one recurring observation: James is his mother's son.

"Looks just like his mama. Handsome fella," one commenter wrote. Others were just as direct: "So handsome! He looks like his mom," and "He looks a lot like Jessica in the face."

Other comments included, "I think that he is mini to his mum. Your mum is proud of [who] you are," "Same your mom's face gorgeous" and "Sure looks like his mom!!"

The person most qualified to weigh in? Sarah Jessica Parker herself, who dropped three words in the comments that said everything: "Ah handsome. And happy. Xxx, mama."

The attention surrounding James' latest post reflects how long the public has followed his journey.
