Twin Sister Remembers Missouri Teen and Mom Killed at Their Missouri Home

"I don't even know how to live without her. We did everything together," the grieving sister said in an interview.

Justice Greer is sharing heartbreaking memories of the mother and twin sister she lost after a shooting outside their Missouri home changed her family's life forever.

According to the family's shared obituary, Justice's mother and sister died on July 27 after suffering critical injuries in the shooting. "Though their lives ended far too soon, the love they shared as mother and daughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew them," the family wrote in the obituary.

The family's loss began two days earlier. The evening of July 25, 2026 began like countless others for Justice's mother, Jessica Lashly, and her 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer.

An Evening That Changed Everything

According to the New York Post, citing the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the mother and daughter had just returned to their House Springs, Missouri, home around 8:30 p.m.

Not long after they arrived, they encountered their 73-year-old neighbor, Robert Winkelman. What happened over the next few moments unfolded quickly.

Before anyone nearby could fully understand what was happening, gunfire erupted outside the home. Jessica, Jersey, and Winkelman were all rushed to area hospitals with critical injuries. While paramedics fought to save them, detectives began trying to understand exactly what had unfolded outside the home.

The Authorities' Search for Answers Begins

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, multiple detectives who had been working an unrelated homicide investigation nearby immediately responded to assist.

Officials said several witnesses remained at the scene and helped detectives begin reconstructing the sequence of events. Deputies soon encountered Winkelman outside his own residence. Authorities said that as they approached him and attempted to take him into custody, he turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head.

He, Jessica, and Jersey were all transported to area hospitals in critical condition. As detectives continued interviewing witnesses, the confrontation began coming into focus.

The Truth About What Happened Begins to Emerge

According to the New York Post's report, investigators determined that Winkelman had walked to Jessica's home to question her about "activities at the residence. A spokesman for the sheriff's office characterized the incident to Fox News Digital as a "dispute between neighbors," as investigators learned that Winkelman had "ongoing frustrations" with activities at Lashly's home.

Authorities said Jessica commented on the encounter. Investigators allege Winkelman then pulled out a firearm and shot Jessica in the head.

Instead of trying to escape, Jersey rushed to her mother's side. Investigators said the teenager attempted to provide first aid before Winkelman allegedly shot her in the head as well.

The Sheriff's Office also said a third person at the residence was chased while Winkelman was armed but was not shot. As investigators slowly uncovered the final moments of the shooting, Justice was learning those same heartbreaking details herself.

The Question Justice Couldn't Escape

In an interview with KSDK, Justice said she has replayed the evening over and over in her mind. "I don't know if I could've maybe helped them or something." She continued:

"They had just gotten home, and I kept thinking I wish my mom weren't outside at that time. Obviously it wasn't her fault. We don't even know our neighbors, so it's not anything she could've controlled."

During the interview, the grieving sister revealed that she had been at work when everything unfolded.

As she replayed the events in her mind during the interview, she spoke of what she thought when she learned of her twin sister's last hours, saying, "Jersey's last moments, she was trying to save my mom. It just shows how brave she is, and I hope I can be half as brave as she is."

The Case Took Another Turn

The investigation continued even as Jessica and Jersey's family began mourning their loss. According to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, investigators amended the case to charge Winkelman with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action after Jessica and Jersey died from their injuries.

Justice's aunt, Lindsey Oberkramer, said the family hoped he would face the consequences of his actions. "I hope he gets great care so that he can face the consequences for his actions."

She added, "We do want justice for Jersey, and the play on words is crazy because Justice and Jersey are twins, and we are trying to find justice for Jersey."

But the criminal case came to an unexpected end before it could ever reach a courtroom. According to an update from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Winkelman died at a local hospital on Aug. 2 from the self-inflicted gunshot wound he suffered when deputies confronted him on July 25.

"Robert Winkelman, the suspect in the July 25th double shooting in House Springs, is dead," the Sheriff's Office announced.

Remembering Jessica and Jersey

For Justice, however, the tragedy has never been defined by court filings or criminal charges. Instead, she wants people to remember who Jessica and Jersey were long before July 25.

In her interview with KSDK, Justice described her deceased twin as the kind of person who could brighten anyone's day.

"She was literally just the funniest person ever. She could make anybody laugh. She was really supportive about anything and everything. She could always tell when someone was sad or needed uplifting, and she was always the one to do it."

The sisters had been preparing to begin their senior year at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill and dreamed of continuing to play lacrosse together in college.

"We were going to play together in college. We didn't know where yet, but we were reaching out." Justice said she can't imagine life without the sister who had always been by her side. Jessica, she added, was just as devoted.

"She was really hardworking. She was always there. She was so supportive. I never doubted how good of a mom she was." She continued:

"It was always just us three. It's going to be really hard because that's all I'm used to."

The Legacy Jessica and Jersey Left Behind

Justice wasn't the only person remembering Jessica and Jersey. Lacrosse coach Abby Feldmann told KSDK that Jersey had a rare ability to inspire everyone around her. "Jersey's someone that can change your whole perspective on life. She's motivational, inspiring, kind, witty, and the most optimistic person I ever knew."

Abby said teammates naturally followed Jersey's lead. "There's not one person who would refuse to follow her. Everyone's behind her. She's really an amazing girl."

Before speaking publicly, Abby asked members of the Northwest High School girls lacrosse team to describe Jersey in one word. Their answers included motivational, goofy, supportive, loud, welcoming, leader, compassionate, brave, determined, relentless, and bright light.

Jessica's sister remembered the pair in much the same way. Calling Jessica "a firecracker," Justice's aunt said, "You never really knew what she was going to say, but she always had the right thing to say."

She added that both mother and daughter always tried to lift others, even during difficult moments. "They were the two funniest people I've ever met in my life. Even if it was [sic] a bad situation, they would both be trying to find the light in it, crack a joke, and lighten the mood for everyone."

One Final Gift Jessica and Jersey Gave

Amid the heartbreak, the family found one measure of comfort. According to the New York Post, friends said Jersey's donated organs helped save six people across the country.

Before the donations took place, hundreds of relatives, classmates, teammates, and community members gathered for Jessica and Jersey's Honor Walk.

Justice remembered that emotional moment. "It was so crazy seeing everyone there at one time and actually realizing I had to say goodbye."

Despite her grief, she said she was proud that her mother and sister had chosen to become organ donors. "They'll save so many people. That's one of the only good things coming out of this."

A Celebration of Jersey's Life

Support for the family continued to grow in the days after the shooting. Justice said she was overwhelmed by the response from people both inside and outside her community. "So many people are reaching out. That's the only good thing out of this, how much the community is coming together. It's really inspiring to see."

She also reportedly said more than $40,000 had already been raised through a fundraiser to support the family. In a Facebook post shared shortly after Jessica and Jersey died, Jessica’s sister-in-law, Vika Greer, wrote, "My sister-in-law and my niece got their lives taken for absolutely nothing."

"Jersey had her whole life ahead of her. Her and Justice are the light to everyone. Seeing Justice breaking down because she has lost two of the most important people in her life is heartbreaking. I'm still trying to process what I am feeling to what has happened [sic]."

She asked supporters that if "everyone can keep my family and the lashlys [sic] family in your prayers, it would really help with bringing healing to us all to the lives that were taken from us unexpectedly." Now, family and friends are preparing for Jersey's Celebration of Life on August 16.

According to the memorial announcement, guests are encouraged to bring a favorite printed photo with Jersey for a memory board, along with stories and memories that reflect the joy she brought to others.

As Justice continues learning how to live without the sister she once called inseparable, it's often the smallest memories that return first.

"I'm really gonna miss... Jersey would annoy me when she'd come into my room, but I'd do anything for her to do it again," she said during her interview with KSDK News.

She ended with the reflection that perhaps captures her loss better than anything else, "I'll miss her laugh and her contagious smile. Every time I look in the mirror, I see Jersey."
