Should I let my 12-year-old babysitter bathe my 8-year-old and 9-year-old sons?
Dear AmoMama,
I have two sons, 8-year-old and 9-year-old sons - basically Irish twins - and I work two jobs since my husband left me when my oldest was 4. About six months ago I started asking my neighbor's 12-year-old daughter to babysit for me. This is a mature sensible young lady; I know the family is in dire need, and I need the help too
The girl comes over at three in the afternoon and goes home at about half past six when I get home. She sits with them, plays games with them and makes sure they do their homework. I started asking her to help them have a bath before I arrive so I can give them dinner and get them to bed a little earlier?
Now both of the boys are in an uproar. They don't want her to help them at all. They are very upset and I honestly don't see why
I don't know if I should put my foot down and insist since they are making such a fuss, but I honestly don't see the harm and it makes my life a lot easier when I get home.
What should I do? Should I lay down the law and force them to let her bathe them, or should I let them have their way? Has anyone out there had this kind of problem? Please advise.
