Kelly Clarkson's Guest Host Sparks Criticism for 'Rude' Behavior amid Her Talk Show Absence – Video
A video captured the moment a 59-year-old star's guest-hosting stint on a talk show sparked debate after an exchange with another actress divided viewers.
Brooke Shields temporarily filled in for Kelly Clarkson as a guest co-host on "The Kelly Clarkson Show." During her interview with Mexican actress Eiza González, Brooke's hosting style drew mixed reactions. While some viewers found her engaging, others felt she overshadowed her guest.

During the conversation, Eiza, 35, referenced her outfit while speaking to Brooke, "By the way, I wore this for you," drawing attention to her white fitted turtleneck sweater, light blue lace peplum overlay, and beige pants.
The "Ambulance" actress continued, "What does it look like?" hinting at the resemblance. Brooke quickly made the connection, asking, "My outfit in 'Blue Lagoon'?" The audience laughed as Eiza confirmed it was inspired by the classic movie.

Brooke, clearly flattered by the "Baby Driver" star's stylish tribute, responded with surprise, "Really?!" Eiza agreed, admitting she couldn't replicate the iconic hair and joking that she used fake fabric as a substitute.

She then reminisced about the 1980 film, jokingly comparing Eiza's version to her own on-screen wardrobe. "Oh my gosh, that was a lot more covered than I was," she said.

She then revealed a behind-the-scenes detail about her iconic look in the film, "And that hair was taped to my body, by the way." Eiza reacted with curiosity, prompting Brooke to nod and add, "Yeah, they had to tape it to my boobs because if the wind blew, it was like, 'Woo!'"

Eiza laughed, responding, "Yeah, yeah, you're like, 'None of that.'" Brooke concluded, "There wasn't much. Wasn't much there." The lighthearted exchange drew audience laughter, but some felt Brooke shifted the focus away from the "3 Body Problem" star.
Many viewers took to social media to voice their opinions on Brooke's hosting style.
One person remarked, "The poor guests can't get a word in edgewise. Brooke interrupts them to talk about her own movies. It's cringy and rude. I've never seen anything like it. We get it Brooke, you've been a movie star since you were 9, now can we hear what the guests are saying???? 🤦♀️🤦♀️🙄"
Similarly, another viewer criticized Brooke's hosting, calling her "unnatural" and claiming she struggled to read the cue cards.
However, not everyone was critical. Some viewers enjoyed Brooke's presence, "You did an amazing job on Kelly 2day!!! Loved the show ❤️ [sic]."
A different viewer expressed admiration for Brooke's humor and hosting skills, adding that they share almost the same birthday, while another praised her for excelling as both a host and a businesswoman.
Meanwhile, Kelly's absence remained a concern for some. One curious fan questioned, "Will she come back not watching till Kelly comes back sad no one saying what's going on."
Another hoped she was doing well, while someone suggested that if guest hosting continues, the show's producers should let band members have a turn.
According to Entertainment Tonight (ET), the "American Idol" alum is dealing with a family emergency. Due to privacy reasons, guests were not informed in advance about her absence but were given the option to step in as guest hosts upon arrival.
Kelly's absence first became evident on March 2, when Simu Liu unexpectedly hosted the show. As he took the stage, he addressed the audience, "Now, before we get things started, I do have a confession to make. I am not Kelly Clarkson. I know this may shock many of you, but Kelly, actually, isn't able to make it today. We're sending her our very best."
Simu further revealed that he had only been informed about his hosting duties five minutes before the taping, as he had originally come to promote his movie "Last Breath."
Before her unexpected break, Kelly's last hosted episode was referenced in a March 5 Instagram post highlighting the day's lineup. The episode featured Nora Fatehi, Jason Derulo, Jason Isaacs, and singer Allie X, along with a special home makeover reveal for a family affected by the Los Angeles fires.
With Kelly absent, Brooke was tapped to guest host on Monday and Tuesday, as announced by the show's official Instagram page on March 9. The weekly schedule also featured celebrity guests such as Smokey Robinson, Simone Ashley, Joshua Jackson, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Dr. Sandra Lee, and Liv Morgan.
The rest of the week saw a rotation of guest hosts, including Molly Sims on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, ET reported that Kal Penn and Andy Cohen are slated to appear in next week's pre-taped episodes.
Despite concerns, ET stated that Kelly is expected to return to taping on March 13, just in time for the show's 1,000th episode. While the specifics of her family emergency remain private, fans can anticipate her comeback soon.

Kelly opened up about her parenting style, acknowledging that while she strives to do a good job as a mom, she can be hard on herself at times, especially when it comes to balancing her schedule to ensure she's present for Remy and River. Still, she prides herself on fostering their independence and striking a balance between being involved without being overbearing.

Looking back at her own experiences, the singer noted that growing up with a busy single mom, who later got married and had to manage a career, made her appreciate the flexibility she now has as her own boss.
While she works to be there for her kids' special moments, she also emphasizes the importance of showing them that parents can maintain a fulfilling life outside of their roles.
However, she acknowledged that there's no such thing as a perfect parent and humorously joked that her kids might need therapy because of her parenting. Even so, Kelly remains committed to doing her best and always striving to improve as a mom.
