'This Is Us' star Chrissy Metz reveals harsh beatings from stepfather over her weight problems
The 37-year-old actress and singer, Chrissy Metz, is most famously known for her role as Kate Pearson in the drama series, This Is Us.
Metz' memoir, This Is Me: Loving The Person You Are Today, will go on sale from March 27, 2018. The book reveals the hardship Metz had to endure as a teenager.
As reported by Fox News, her stepfather, Trigger, beat her and forced her to weigh herself on a weekly basis. She explained that he didn't treat her the same way as his biological children.
Unfortunately, Metz' mother wasn't aware of the abuse her daughter was subjected to. Trigger made sure that he mentally and physically abuse Metz while her mother was at work.
Metz said that Trigger was obsessed with her body; it offended him 'but he couldn't help but stare' whenever she ate. The actress explained that she had an unhealthy relationship with food.
'We had lived with a lack of food for so long that when it was there, I felt like I had to eat it before it disappeared. Food was my only happiness.'

While the abuse started out as verbal and emotional, it soon turned physical. He would beat her for no reason, but never in her face. He would slap and punch her arms and legs.
He also forced her to get on a scale once a week, which made her feel that she was 'gigantic.' He would yell "Good God almighty!" every time she got on and would ask her why she was getting fatter.
She started to eat at strange hours so he wouldn't be able to yell at her or watch her. Whenever she ate, she would consume it quickly, and it would give her a 'brief bliss of numbness.'
Despite the abuse, Metz still looked to Trigger as a father-figure, since her biological dad left when she was eight-years-old.
There were brief moments of affection, and she would sometimes join him in watching Ken Burns Civil War documentaries. She still has a relationship with him today.
