More than a decade after the psychological thriller hit theaters, one of its leading men is setting the record straight. He also had plenty of kind words for the filmmaker who brought it to life.

Ben Affleck is finally weighing in on one of the most talked-about scenes from the thriller "Gone Girl." The actor starred as Nick Dunne in David Fincher's gripping 2014 film, adapted from Gillian Flynn's 2012 novel, opposite Rosamund Pike as his wife, Amy Dunne.

During a conversation with Variety, Affleck, 54, revealed whether he wore a prosthetic during the movie's memorable shower scene with Pike, ending a long-running debate over what moviegoers really saw on screen.

"I wore no prosthesis," he said. "I've only worn one in one film, 'Hollywoodland.'" That lone prosthetic, he noted, was a nose.

Affleck has addressed Fincher's approach to filming the shower scene before. While accepting an award for "Gone Girl" at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, he joked that the director had initially promised him the camera would not reveal too much.

"David assured me — because trust is essential with directors and actors — 'Listen, if we tilt down, we'll never go far enough to see anything,'" Affleck said at the time.

He also poked fun at the conditions on set, saying, "I'd like to thank you for keeping the set cool," before quipping, "If you're gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold."

More than a decade later, Affleck still has nothing but admiration for Fincher. Reflecting on his filmography during an October 6 interview with Letterboxd, he described working with the director as "the great privilege" of his life.

"I think he's one of the absolute greatest filmmakers ever to live," Affleck said. "I love him. I fell in love with him and got to know him and adore him. His spirit, his genius. He really is one of these few people who has the taste of an artist and the mind of an engineer. Those things don't typically seem to come together."

Affleck also lauded the filmmaker's knack for creating an environment that allows audiences to fully settle into his movies. "Every movie that he does is done masterfully, where you feel the sense, and it's like you can relax," he said.

These days, Affleck is also busy behind the camera. His latest project is the Netflix action flick "Animals," starring Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Gillian Anderson, Ray Fisher, Jacob Estrada, Christopher Woodley, Matt Gerald, Adriana Paz, and Luis Gerardo Mendez.

In the thriller, which he co-wrote with Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray, Affleck plays a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is abducted and held for ransom by unknown captors. The film marks his sixth outing as a director.

The "Good Will Hunting" star has also opened up about using artificial intelligence while making the film. During an appearance at Bloomberg's Screentime Event, Affleck said he used AI "for lots of things in that movie."

"I'm a little bit hesitant to point out what they are — or even talk about it — because in my business, we're trying to foster the illusion of reality, right?" Affleck said. He likened revealing the film's AI techniques to a magician explaining a trick before performing it.

"It's sort of like if you went to a magic show and the magician walked out and said, 'Just before I start, I want you to know there's another bunny under here,'" he said, going on to describe "Animals" as "a very human movie" and calling it "a good example" of how to use AI ethically.
