All of us fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger can breathe again after the star revealed he is recovering well from a very risky and unplanned open-heart surgery.

70-year-old Hollywood star, bodybuilding legend and former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Twitter to update his fans about his health, and to thank them for their concerns and support, as Closer Weekly reported.

On March 29, Schwarzenegger was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles to undergo a planned minor procedure on his heart that presented complications and required an emergency open-heart surgery.

Fortunately, as his spokesperson Daniel Ketchell told to the Washington Post, the hospital’s open-heart surgery team was on hand during the procedure and could intervene as soon as complications arose, successfully keeping him safe.

‘They frequently are in these circumstances, in case the catheter procedure was unable to be performed. Governor Schwarzenegger’s pulmonic valve was successfully replaced,’ Ketchell said.

Originally, the actor was going to have a valve replacement for a procedure he had to undergo in 1997. The replacement was long overdue and Schwarzenegger also wanted to update it to a less-invasive catheter valve replacement.

‘That 1997 replacement valve was never meant to be permanent, and has outlived its life expectancy, so he chose to replace it yesterday through a less-invasive catheter valve replacement,’ Ketchell explained.

The day after the unexpected open-heart procedure was performed, Ketchell shared with the fans of the Terminator star that he was well and awake after the surgery and that his first words were ‘I’m back,’ an allusion to his catchphrase from the movie franchise.

Schwarzenegger was discharged from the hospital on April 6, and he is already back in the comfort of his own home. A source told Us Weekly that the actor is ‘excited to get home and feels great.’

As soon as he was able to do it, Schwarzenegger sent a message to his fans and supporters to brief them about his health and to thank them for keeping him in their thoughts.

‘It’s true: I’m back! I went to sleep expecting to wake up with a small incision and woke up with a big one — but guess what? I woke up, and that’s something to be thankful for,’ the star wrote.
