Whoopi Goldberg, on an episode of ‘The View’, revealed why she decided to call it quits with her lover who she said was 18 years younger than she was.

The hosts on the talk show had been discussing age gaps in relationships.

Whoopi, who is a host on the talk-show had asked:

‘How big of an age gap in a relationship is too big in a relationship?’

The hosts then discussed what it was like having a younger lover, with some of the hosts, including Whoopi, revealing their relationships with lovers younger or older than them.

Whoopi stated:

‘Any more than 10 years can become a problem when it comes to stuff like relating to each other as well as family and friends accepting.’

Sarah Haines, a fellow host had revealed she had also dated a man 18 years older than she was though she was in her 20s at the time.

Then Whoopi revealed she also had had a relationship with someone much younger than she was:

‘I had a very, very, very young man once.’

Her Co-hosts on ‘The View’ had immediately pressed her for details, to which she replied:

‘I was more than 18 years older. But the reason I knew it was not going to work is that he once said to me 'Paul McCartney had a band before Wings?' And that is the thing that says... [Big sigh].’

Her cryptic explanation had made her Co-hosts laugh.

Co-host Sunny Hostin then spoke about her grandma’s relationship with her second husband who was 20 years older:

‘When she got sick in her 80s, he left her. I’m still so angry with him about it and I’ll never forgive him for it, but she said he was too old for him. They had been together for 40 years. And he left her when she got sick because she was in her 80s. That 20-year difference, 18 years - that could be a problem.’

Whoopi Goldberg has faced three unsuccessful marriages.

After her divorce with her third husband, she had been in a romantic relationship with actor Frank Langella for a couple of years.

The 62 years old star has stated that she has no plans of getting married again and commented:

‘Some people are not meant to be married and I am not meant to. I’m sure it is wonderful for lots of people.’
